Sovvid alto sax reeds are made of grown-up high quality reeds, grown in sufficient sunlight, harvested by hand. Featuring a thinner vamp and unfiled cut designed for ease of play and a traditional blank for a clear sound.

The spots on the tail of the reeds are not moldy. During the natural growth of reeds, the leaves cannot completely cover the straw. Every morning there will be dew on the reeds. When the sun shines at noon, it is easy to form such spots, generally this kind of speckled reed has a longer light time and a better texture.

Place the thinner part of the reed up and fit the reed and mouthpiece tightly. Install the checkpoint screw to secure the reed.

How to Install?

  • Prepare the alto saxophone, mouthpiece, ligature and reed.
  • Hold the mouthpiece with your left hand, put the reed on it with your right hand and hold it down with your left thumb.
  • Put the ligature on the mouthpiece and the reed from top to bottom, and turn the screw to tighten it.
  • Insert the installed mouthpiece into the curved neck in a rotating manner.
  • Remove the black plug of the saxophone, insert the installed bent neck into the main pipe, and tighten the screws.

Warm Tips

  1. Before using the new saxophone reed, soak the middle and front end of the reed in clean water for 3-5 minutes. Use cold or warm water instead of hot water.
  2. You can prepare two or three more reeds for rotation during normal practice, which can prolong the service life of the reeds.
  3. Be careful when installing or placing, if the tip is broken or curved, the reed cannot be used again.
  4. After use, clean the reed and put it in a ventilated place to dry naturally, prevent moisture and exposure to the sun, then carefully put it in the packaging box and keep it properly.
  5. Beginners generally choose strength 2.0 or 2.5 reeds, and experienced musicians or professional players can choose strength 2.5 or above reeds.

Bought these 2 1/2 reeds for my son for his saxophone. He is a little irresponsible and I got tired of buying a well-known, more expensive box of reeds. I’d say he’s an intermediate player with an upgraded sax, and he’s found that the quality is sufficient, but these are probably more of a beginner’s level type of reed. These are easy to use and fit the saxophone accurately. I’d say the durability is similar to more expensive brands. All-in-all, the value of these reeds was satisfactory for the price I paid.
