Makes changing that Moen shower cartridge less stressful, cause those dang clips have a higher statistical rate of falling in the wall, than the shower floor...Small price to pay for peace of mind and needing to tell your sufficient other, old crap Please go to Home Depot at 9 pm Saturday night

My shower cartridge replacement was not the worst ever. Nor was it the easiest. Just buy the cartridge extraction tool.I have little clearance to seat the retainer clip. So it was necessary to trim the legs down. It is better to have a little longer than OEM than short.However, the OEM design with the little hole is easier to seat. As with the hole, you have better control with a micro-needle nose. Which is important. As the pain with this job is having the retainer clip pop under a little pressure and disappear forever in the wall.This design is not as good. But with 5 or so for the price of one OEM? Yes, even I will get it right on the next try. These also have a little flair at the bottom. This makes seating easier.Yes, you should not skip this retainer step. 9 out of 10 times the cartridge is never coming out on its own. Especially if it has been cemented in by hard water and time.If for any reason there is a sudden change in system water pressure? Like shutting off the system water and forgetting to open at least one faucet when restoring pressure? Yep, it could move and leak. Even come blasting out in a comedy of errors of compounding air and water pressure in the pipe.So just buy these clips and install them.
