Feature:

Advantages of ALTiN coating: Titanium aluminum nitride (AlTiN) - abrasion resistant coating for high-speed cutting, hardness 32 GPa; Thickness 1-4 microns; Friction coefficient 0.5; Thermal stability 600°C Titanium Aluminum nitride (AlTiN) is a coating with excellent hardness and high heat and oxidation resistance. The addition of aluminum results in a 100°C increase in the heat resistance of this composite PVD coating relative to the standard TiN coating. Titanium aluminum nitride (AlTiN) is commonly coated on high-speed cutting tools used on CNC machine tools to process more ductile materials under harsh cutting conditions.

Advantages of solid carbide: The high temperature carbide content in the whole cemented carbide exceeds that of high-speed steel and the wear resistance is good. The overall red hardness of cemented carbide can reach 800-1000 degrees. The overall cutting speed of cemented carbide is 4-7 times higher than that of high-speed steel.

I ordered this 1/2" end mill for hobby use with my benchtop milling machine. It arrived well-packaged in its own plastic case and has the appearance of a high-quality tool. The cutting edges are very sharp to the touch. I took a few test cuts in a piece of 1/2" thick 6061 aluminum with good results. I've found that conventional milling with a little WD-40 gives me the best surface finish. I also use a steady blast of air to get chips out of the way and keep my cutting edges clean. Without the air I've noticed the cutters tend to re-cut some of the chips, leading to a smearing effect that dulls the finish. I didn't test this end mill on steel but I've used enough of these tools to know it should perform great. In past tests I've found aluminum to be a better indicator of surface finishes than steel, even though the carbide handles both materials without any problem. For my use in the hobby shop this seems like a great tool so far. Overall I'm very pleased with it.

It may not be the most premium option on the market, but this is one tough little end mill. It works beautifully on my husband's small hobby CNC machine, and I've no doubt it would be more than up to the task in a proper machine shop, as well. Recommended!

I had to chuck this endmill up in my mill and take a couple passes on the side of a steel block just to be sure it worked. And I have to say that, for the price, I figured there would be something wrong. But it cuts just fine. My micrometer says it is the advertised size, Dial indicator tells me there's no noticeable runout I can't blame on my old collet. Sure seems to be a quality end mill with a bargain basement/generic price. I am happy with it and will be watching for more from Lzcdelyxiao to see if the quality is across the board with their cutters. Great deal! Comes in a nice holder to protect it from damage too!
