This product includes parts to assemble two hammer locks. The product description indicates they are grade 80, but they are a knock off brand, and I cannot verify they are the same quality.I haul several different trailers with a 1-ton GMC truck. It is difficult hooking up the safety chains attached to the smaller trailers, and there isn't a good place to connect the electric brake cables or my ring bow shackles when I need to pull something out of the ditch. These hammer locks solve all of those issues. I still use the truck's hitch to connect the safety chains on my large flatbed trailer, but it is nice having the hammerlocks for the other uses mentioned above. These are no picnic to install. The videos make it look easy when you're able to put them between boards to pound the center pin in. However, trying to do that while they are installed on the truck and swinging around a circular opening doesn't work very well. On the plus side, once you get them on, they will be hard for someone to steal.I put a small piece of heat shrink tubing on them to hopefully dampen any rattling sound. I had a hard time getting the tubing around the bends, so the chunk ended up being fairly small. I haven't noticed them at all; although it has been winter, and I've had the windows up.These make it MUCH easier to attach safety chains for our small trailers and also provides a good hooking location for electric brake cables and tow straps when pulling others out of the ditch (have already had to do it twice this winter).

BATONECO 1/2" Hammer Lock Chain Connector, Heavy Duty Coupling Link, Tow Hitch HammerLock Coupling Connector Link, Red (2 Pieces)The black anti rust coating is applied evenly, no missing spots. The red powder coat has a couple of nicks in but nothing significant and no more than it will get nicked in first use. Seller's site lists scary instructions about having to grind and drill and bevel parts to get them to work. However the pair I received were fine and went together fine. I have not took them apart yet but I imagine I need a punch to do so.REVIEW PHILOSOPHY: I only review a product if it is something I am capable of critically evaluating through comparison, testing and use. This means I have experience of using similar items; or that I have equipment or tools that I can test it with; or that I have an upcoming need so I can actually use. I am as selective about getting an item to review as I would be about purchasing that same item, so yes, I expect it to be a good product. My reviews are NOT based on packaging or if it was delivered timely.

This is a grade 80 chain connector, You can get stronger and weaker happerlocks, but grade 80 is the standard grade. This connector is about half the price of brand name 1/2" hammer lock connectors, so it is potentially a good value. The cast parts of the connector is quite as polished as some of the name brand ones, One of mine had a fairly large burr left on the side, but just cosmetic. The powder costing is reasonably heavy and appears well bonded. After putting the collar in the center, I was able to drive the load pin through without tremendous difficulty. I haven't tried to do a removal. They suggest filing the rim of the land pin to center it, but the ones I got already had a bevel and didn't need any preparation.I guess I'll just have to trust them on strength.
