Solid! Very rigid, ample thickness this is definitely a great crab and lobster gauge that most definitely can be used as a cord winder giving it great functionality.

Basic gauge, nice feature with the cord notches allowing you to wrap up about 50 to 60 ft of thin cord. If you use thicker rope or 70 or 80 ft it will bulge far over the coil notches. The gauge is aluminum about 1/8 of an inch thick. It's stamped and the edges are finished but a little sharp on the hand. If you are wrapping cord using gloves makes it more comfortable. This is an improvement over the plastic ones for durability, but this gauge has no size markings. This is important if you are using the gauge in different locations as states have varying measurement regulations when it comes to Dungeness crab, and red rock crab. I've never seen a gauge that doesn't have the size markings on it. I'd be tempted to buy one at twice the cost that's made out of stainless steel and stamped with all the different state sizings and regulation markings. I have a number die set so if you look at the picture you'll see I've added the measurements using punch dies. Also added a stainless steel carabiner to clip to my crab pot. Decent tool just needs modification to make it fully functional for crabbing in BC, Washington, Oregon, and California.

I was excited to use this on the Oregon coast for crabbing but overall this crab gauge is really big and clunky and has no numbers on it so you have to mark it yourself and that always washes off in the ocean. If you were crabbing from a boat and had this mounted in the boat it might be good but for crabbing off the dock or shore this thing is way too big to carry around.

…..so the possibility of bending it is quite high. It also has no etching or stamping for the size increments. That’s easily fixed with a Sharpie, but should have been done at the factory somehow.Maybe it deserves another star, but they manufacturer seems to be cutting a few corners

I had high hopes for this product, but it’s just too big and heavy to be practical. Holding it feels uncomfortable, and using it for any length of time is frustrating. Definitely not what I expected, and I wouldn’t recommend it
