This is an interesting alternative to traditional wooden shims. They are scored every one-twelve of an inch or so (about 2mm) so they snap off clean, or can be cut ahead of time. They are less than half as long as a regular wooden shim, but they have a "steeper" angle, so that they still have the same maximum shimming height. The big advantage of these are for use in a humid/wet environment as they won't rot like wood. Also, the black color may hide the shim a little better in situations where you can see the edge as opposed to the light color of a wooden shim. If you are buying both types of shims via Amazon, the shipped price is about the same, but of course you can get both wooden and plastic/composite shims for a lot less at a local big box home improvement store.
