About this item

This gear is used on most Briggs & Stratton starters but should not be used if the flywheel ring gear is steel. Most of the flywheel ring gears are aluminum and some (only the ones that haven't broken yet, rare) are plastic. Can be used to replace the following Briggs part numbers: 280104, 280104S, 693059, 695708, 5086H, and John Deere part number M83184.

Identical replacement. Works Flawless. Way cheaper than a new starter. Took longer to get the starter off than to replace this pinion gear. So happy I stumbled across this. Be careful removing the retaining clip, sucker takes off! Luckily I found it. Because I'm a novice, I didn't pay attention, so I'm case that's you, the spring goes above it, and seats into the side of the gear with the indent.

Exactly like original which broke in half. Pinion is good however in my case the starter had deeper issues and I ended up installing a new one.

This gear fits my John Deere L-120. It has the exact number of teeth and works perfectly. So if it fits my L-120, it should fit D170 L111 L118 L120 LA120 LA130 LA135 LA140 also.Much cheaper than OEM!

It took 20x longer to remove the starter than to install this gear. Thanks B&S for putting the starter bolts below the flywheel. Gear works great and appears to be well built. After several starts, gear looks brand new still.

I wish I'd seen this product a day earlier. My starter motor lost a bolt, got tilted sideways, and all the teeth sheared off when I next tried to start my mower. I purchased a replacement starter, which worked fine--and then Amazon recommended these gears to me.Fortunately, I hadn't thrown out the old starter, so I removed the retaining hardware and slipped one of these on. Now I have a spare starter! One note: the spring clip/ring that holds the gear and the mounting hardware on is moderately difficult to remove, and near-impossible to reinstall. I *highly* recommend that you purchase some e-clips, external split rings, or some similar product to replace the original spring clip. You are almost certainly going to lose the original one anyway. That's no fault of this product, but be prepared.

The one I installed is working fine. can't say anything to durability. Also any one that has replace one of these things know that the keeper ring that holds it on is a major pain to get off. I would be nice if the seller could include a couple of the cheap keeper rings along with the gear.

Would of been better if it showed up faster. But for the price, i can't argue.

Fit perfect. I added dry graphite spray to the engine gear because the previous starter with new starter gear only lasted 1 year.
