If you are going to get out on a frozen lake to catch some fish, ride snowmobiles, or any other reason, it is important that you have a way to pull yourself out if the ice breaks. It is nearly impossible to pull yourself out by gripping wet ice, which is why picks like these are necessary. The retractable cover allows you to wear them without poking or snagging on anything, but they allow the spike to penetrate the ice with a little downward pressure.Kit comes with two ice picks and two emergency whistles. That way you can go out with a friend and both of you are covered. The picks themselves feel as sharp and sturdy as other brands I've used.

Ice fishing is inherently dangerous, so i always have picks on me. These are some of the best I have found. Thankfully I haven't been in the situation to use them, but knowing I have them available is reassuring. The orange handles allow for visibility and the included whistles will gain the attention of others around me. There is a plastic tube that covers the actual tips and they retract upon use. This helps keep them from poking me as I bend over and keeps moisture off as well. Will definitely use everytime on the ice.
