When it comes to emergency preparedness, the JTRYEMU Emergency Weather Radio stands out as a must-have tool for any household, adventurer, or survival enthusiast. Packed with solar charging, a hand crank, versatile lighting, reliable radio capabilities, and an SOS alert system, this device is engineered to keep you safe and informed when disaster strikes.Key Features BreakdownSolar, Hand Crank, and USB C chargingThe tri power options ensure you’re never left in the dark. The solar panel will charge it fully in 122 hours of full sunlight. The hand crank can charge it in 53 hours. They both can and should be used as an emergency backup while USB C charging of the 20,000mAH battery is the ideal way to charge, taking around 6 hours.Multi-Purpose LED LightingThe built-in LED flashlight features three modes: focused, broad, combined, and SOS strobe. The lights are surprisingly bright at 600, 150, and 650 lux combined. There is also an additional reading light capable of illuminating a small room or trail effectively. The strobe modes are ideal for signaling help, making it a versatile tool for both everyday outages and dire situations.AM/FM/NOAA Weather RadioWith access to NOAA weather bands, this radio delivers real-time alerts and updates. Reception is crisp, thanks to a retractable antenna, and it includes a tuning knob for fine adjustments and quick access to local stations. Whether tracking a storm or staying informed during a blackout, the radio performs flawlessly.SOS Emergency SpeakerThe dedicated SOS button triggers a loud alarm accompanied by a flashing strobe light—sufficient to alert rescuers to your presence. Its simplicity ensures even panicked users can activate it quickly by holding the button for 2 seconds.Bonus FeaturesUSB Charging Port: Powers smartphones or small devices—critical for maintaining communication.Compass: This can help in an emergency to show you the direction you are heading.Bluetooth: You can use this as a portable speaker.Included Accessories: Micro-USB cable, wrist strap, and a user guide.Pros✅ Reliable tri power source (solar + hand crank + USB C).✅ Bright, multi-mode LED lighting.✅ Clear NOAA weather alerts and AM/FM reception.✅ Loud SOS alarm with intuitive activation.✅ Durable, travel-friendly design.Cons❌ Solar charging is very slow and should be considered only for emergencies.❌ Hand cranking requires effort and is slow. It should only be considered for emergencies.❌ The compass is a bit small and with the strap in place is more difficult to see.❌ When the strap is in place the solar panel isn't able to get full light.VerdictThe excels as an all-in-one emergency tool, balancing functionality and durability. While the solar and crank power systems aren’t perfect, their redundancy ensures you’ll stay powered when it matters most. Whether prepping for hurricanes, camping trips, or urban emergencies, this radio is a lifeline worth investing in.Updated Con❌ In the description on Amazon it mentions the following "featuring an advanced automatic frequency search function. For FM frequency, simply press and hold the FM/AM button for 2 seconds, and it intelligently scans and tunes to the strongest signal without manual adjustments." This button is a slider switch and not able to be pressed. I'm not sure what they mean by that and nothing is mentioned in the instructions either.

The weather service just issued a severe thunderstorm warning for our area. So I pulled out the weather radio that just arrived and listed to the details on AM 162.550 Mhz, the frequency that NOAA broadcasts in our area. After listening to the warning, the current and future forecasts followed. Along with an incredible amount of detail, some technical in nature, certainly far more than the distilled bits that the TV weather guy offers.I’ve long appreciated radio broadcasts. And now with this pro-grade Wx radio in my hands, I’ll definitely be tuning in more frequently. The quality of the radio tuner is very good. Stations come in clearly, and the sound is clear and crisp. The radio has both AM and FM, and of course the weather band (WB). It also has an FM scan feature. A telescopic antenna is available for optimal reception. The radio has a few light sources, including a flashlight with side markers and a flip-up LED panel on top. Both are activated with push buttons. Although the flashlight is plenty bright for finding ones way in the dark, don’t expect a powerful beam. As for the reading light panel, again it’s functional, but because of the way it opens (with the light shining down on the radio as opposed to away from the radio) it’s a bit awkward.❗️Re the LED light panel, be aware that the LEDs do NOT go out when the panel is closed. I can see where this could be a potential problem. Because when the panel is closed, there’s very little light that peeks out from the edges. And if no one notices that the light is ON, the light will burn, and burn, and burn until the battery is dead.Although the weather band is my favorite feature of this radio, there’s a few other favorites that deserve mention:✅ The 20,000mAh power bank provides power to the electronics and for charging small devices like cell phones. Although there’s a USB-C and USB-A ports on the device, only the USB-A can send power in reverse for charging. A cord is provided.✅ There are 2 alternative battery charging methods, solar and a hand crank dynamo. Both mechanisms should keep the radio working under any conditions. If the suns shining, the solar panel on top can charge the battery. If it’s cloudy, the hand crank on the back can charge the battery. With these on board, there’s nothing standing between the user and the weather service.❗️NOTE: When charging the radio via the dynamo hand crank or the solar panel, I noticed that the white battery capacity indicators do NOT light up. I suspect they don’t generate enough power. In fact, they may only provide enough power to run the radio, and not enough to actually charge the battery. This is especially true for the hand crank. I can’t confirm, but when I researched the topic I learned that back-up “charging” mechanisms like these are usually wired to provide immediate power to the radio.✅ The BlueTooth feature paired instantly with my iPhone, allowing music from my favorite apps to stream through the radio speakers. Pretty cool.SUMMARYThis weather radio is the kind of product that every household should have. Even with the internet providing us with virtually all our information needs, the radio will never go away. And save some electromagnetic storm that takes out everything, radio waves remain the most dependent source of instant communication, period. It has been ever since Marconi let loose the first broadcast back in 1895 , and it will for decades to come. I highly recommend this weather radio. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
