I have one on my fly fishing vest and use it often. Over the years I have purchased a couple of these for my fly fishing buddies.

I figured I'd give this a try since my old eyes struggle with smaller hooks. I'm returning it because it doesn't work that great with size 20 and smaller, especially with the bigger body small flies. For most small flies I spent a lot of time trying to get them to stand upright because they tend to fall over or turn sideways. Once you get them upright, the line goes through on the first try 50% of the time. Size 18 and bigger seems to be what the designers aimed for and it works good for those. The time spent manipulating the fly just isn't worth it for me. I can use my MagniFly and forceps much faster and on bigger flies I can do okay with my eyes.

There are lot's of cheap copies with weak magnets. This USA owned company has a strong magnet. Works great for nymphs and midges. Not great for dry flies with lot's of hair around loop, but it all depends on the fly. I love it for my small midges which are hard to hold, simply drop it on the magnet and focus on threading, then just use line to pull away. Great product.

Holds flies in place and with a little wiggling makes threading line easier. Even put flies there when wanting to keep them in place when moving short distances. Definitely a great tool to have on the water

Well, it works: Received mine yesterday. As an experiment, in my living room rather than on the river, when I tried threading 7X tippet to a tiny fly, it made an impossible task merely difficult. I can't really see the tippet most of the time, or even feel it. But after a few tries, I was amazed to see that the fly was threaded. Just make sure the eye of the hook is open -- not clogged with gunk or adhesive from the fly tying process. I suppose if you're younger and steadier, it will work even better, like everything else.

This product might be good for bare hooks as shown in picture but it is poor for flies. The fly material (fur etc.) gets in the way and/or the tippet must be perfectly straight and stiff.Fly fishers should get magnifying glasses like Gudebrod Fold Away Glasses Optical Range: +2.00 and you'll be much happier.
