I would have loved to have had this as a kid and young science nerd, but I mostly use this for examining counterfeit documents and identification. I spent decades investigating counterfeits, and, even retired, I find myself looking askance at ID and money that is handed to me sometimes. This microscope is great for document examination - I wish I’d had it back in the day.*RECOMMENDED*

I recommend this, even though the samples aren't all very reliable. The microscope is super easy to handle, I've bought it for my 4yo, and she loved it. It's fairly durable. The screw driver wasn't included even though it was shown in th "what's in the box" paper added. The samples are nice, in the 4 pack there are doubles. The mammal fur doesnt seem very authentic, like ultra this vibrant green cat fur. As a cat owner I couldn't find a strand so thin...But this is still a very good product in a reasonable price for encouraging curiosity in kids.

I'm really enjoying this pocket microscope. The magnification is great, and the optical zoom and LED light make it easy to get a good look at small objects.I appreciate the little clip that allows me to attach it to my phone to share my discoveries and take pictures, but I especially like that it's not dependent on the phone to function. It's not a digital microscope. The focus is manual, which I like personally, but it's harder for young kids to get the hang of adjusting the dial to focus. It comes with a ton of slides. Honestly, just a quarter of them would have been plenty. I'm a bit skeptical that they're all real samples, but they're fun nonetheless. Since the view is inversed, it's hard to move the microscope to the right spot to view the specimen. To hold it steady enough to share the discovery with someone else is next to impossible. If it was made for indoor use, a simple clip or stand to hold the microscope and slides would make a world of difference in making this microscope more user-friendly. I don't have a way to verify the magnification claims, but I've included some photographs of slides, so you can compare the magnified image with what the naked eye (or camera) can see.If you're looking for a portable microscope that you can use to view things in the field, this is a great option. The pocket-sized design is incredibly convenient. Instead of all laboratory bits and bobs, I would rather have a tidy little travel case, to protect it on the go and store samples in. I haven't used all the other extras, like the pipettes, tiny jars, tweezers, etc. yet.I've been gathering a variety of magnifying lenses and pocket microscopes for my students at forest school, and this my personal favorite for individual students to use, but it is not great for groups or young children. In my last photograph, it outranks 1, 2, 3, 7, and 9 for a field magnifier, and is on-par with 8. It's better than 4 and 5 for adults, but they're better for groups or young kids.Overall, I'm very happy with it and anticipate using it regularly with my students and myself.

This mini pocket microscope is very fun to use. I like that it comes with a bunch of pre-prepared plastic slides with samples like animals, plants, insects, and flowers, making it a fun way to have an in-depth view to explore and learn about different things. The instructions are really simple to follow, so it’s a great option for beginners or kids who are just starting to learn about science. I also like that you can use it as is or use the adapter clip to attach it to your smartphone so you can take photos and videos of what you’re looking at. However, I will say the adapter is a little flimsy with my phone. The microscope does have a built-in LED light, which helps illuminate whatever you’re viewing, and the lenses provide clear magnification from 50X to 250X, which is more than enough for most uses. Overall, this microscope is perfect for kids or anyone curious about the tiny details of things.

If you have a junior scientist in your home then this Exploracy mini microscope set is sure to please. My brother’s grandson is very interested in science. He really gets into learning about things and discovering how they work. When I saw this microscope with slides, I knew he’d have something entertaining to play with when he visits. I wasn’t wrong. He enjoyed the microscope so much that he didn’t want to go home. This microscope comes with slides… Forty-eight of them in fact. The slides have all sorts of interesting things and are divided into four major categories (Flowers/plants, insects, vegetables and animals) with 12 slides in each category. There is a knob for zooming and another for focusing. The set comes with step-by-step instructions on how to use the microscope and also the Smartphone adapter. The set requires one AAA battery to work the LED built-in light. I did not try or test the Smartphone adapter as the child does not have a phone. Eventually when the microscope set is given to him permanently, his grandpa or dad will be able to use their smartphones to help him explore even more. This microscope kit is perfect for any child who is curious about things and wants to know more. In a day and age when screen viewing and video games are prevalent, it’s wonderful to have something that will inspire children to learn and spark their curiosity.Priced at $29.99 (February 2025), I feel this is a worthwhile gift that will grow with your child.

This microscope is small enough to easily fit in a pocket, but has good enough magnification to see the fine details of things. It's easy to use provided you have a flat surface to hold the microscope steady on.Most of the box the microscope comes in is filled with slides - 4 boxes with 12 each. The samples cover a range of plants and animals, with some stained for better visibility. The pollen slides don't look like much, but some of the others are interesting. Personally, I quickly grew bored with them and I've had much more fun picking up random objects in my apartment and looking at them instead. The set also includes a few other accessories. The phone mount is the only one I'd consider useful. The plastic tweezers are only good for picking up things you don't want to touch with your fingers, the pipettes are for collecting liquids (which the microscope generally doesn't have high enough magnification to see the contents of), and the sample containers don't seal and are partially opaque. There's an odd plastic container as well that might be better for viewing things like live insects, but I'm not entirely sure what it is because the instructions call it a "custard." Frankly, I would've preferred fewer slides/accessories and a better microscope. The design choice to have the battery cover attached with a screw is a decision I find a bit odd. You don't need to remove the battery cover often, but if you do need to replace the battery needing to also have a screwdriver handy is inconvenient. There are plenty of plastic cover designs that snap into place without a screw.Still, for a cheap little microscope this one works pretty well. It's simple enough for a child to use easy to carry in case you spot something you'd like to take a close look at.

Pros:- Microscope is small. It can easily fit in your pocket or a bag to take with you.- Comes with 48 prepared slides which is a huge number for the cost! They're all nature-based: flowers, insects, animals, and vegetables. Slides are colour-coded by their categories.- It includes a lens attachment which works well with my Android S24 FE phone. It's certainly a nicer experience than fitting my eye socket into the microscope.- Also includes two specimen containers, tweezers, etc. to collect specimens for your own slides.- The zoom is great. I had no problem adjusting the magnification to get a clear picture- The price is great at $35.99 (currently 17% off for $29.99).Opportunities:- I removed a star because the prepared slides come in one cardboard container per category and within that is a cardboard tray that holds the slides. Even if you're careful, it won't take long before you'll need a new storage container for the slides. I think a slightly more expensive product (say $40) for plastic containers is worth the cost.

I remember when I was little being fascinated by all the things I'd collected and put under my dad's microscope. This allows you to take that curiosity and excitement out with you!The microscope easily fits in your pocket and has a built in light. The kit includes some basic tools to prepare your own specimens, but most importantly - comes with a bunch of slides already prepared! This is key in my opinion. Those prepared slides are what 'light the fire' of curiosity. I watched my 5yo nephew get so excited looking through the slides... when he'd checked them all out, he immediately wanted to head outside and find more things to look at.There isn't much that beats watching a young child's fascination flourish, and this is one STEM kit that genuinely brings the wonders of science and the little details around us - right to their finger tips.I highly recommend, even without kids... revive that inner child's curiosity! Grab this and take it with you on your next hike - you'll be amazed.
