I needed these to make extension cords to service Zenith transoceanic radios. These socket savers will come apart and you cam make a cable that connects the two halves you just separated. Works like a charm. I made two extension cords like this. It also works with some other old transoceanic radios like Delmonico.

The outer case is all metal with a high quality ceramic tube socket inside. Male and female pins are "gold", carefully assembled and straight. The price is a bit high but, the materials and quality are first rate. Don't buy cheap $3.00 plastic "Tube Tester" adapters to use with your expensive tubes and amplifier. You are asking for trouble. Yup, made in China but NOT JUNK. These 9 pin units work perfectly in my Schiit Audio Valhalla 2 headphone amplifier

I use these adapters in my Schiit Freya plus. After my second tube swap the center post broke off and I had to dig it out off the socket. I wouldn’t purchase these again and would spend the extra money on something constructed better.

Not cheap but good quality. Works well with my lyr tube headphones amp. No problems taking in or out of the socket. If you do use a few set of tubes a lot, maybe its better to get a few sets of this socket. Worth it for people that need to tube rolling often.

These tube savers are sturdy and make tubes more accessible. However, two out of five clamp the tube pins so tight I have to remove the tube and tube saver so I can get a better grip to pull the tube out of the saver. And yes, I gently rocked the tube side to side as I pulled it out of the saver but with the force required it felt like the tube would be destroyed. I cannot imagine anyone plugging an expensive NOS tube in and worrying about damaging the tube. No reason for the tube pins to be so tight inside the saver.

I got these for my Schiit Freya+ where the tube bases fit down in the chassis, and the tube sockets on the Freya are mounted directly to the circuit board and I could see the board getting cracked by changing out tubes many times. I had the all-plastic tube savers that coast about $17 for a set of 4 but ended up breaking the key off of one of them (had to dig it out of the tube socket) so I thought I'd spend a little more to get some that were sturdier. These are definitely built better and fit down into the chassis holes just fine, but fit so tight into the preamp sockets and VERY tight onto the tubes that I end up pulling the entire assembly, tube and tube saver, out every time I change a tube. I've read that the more you use them the looser they get, but I don't do a lot of tube rolling so it's going to take quite a while for mine to do that that. In any event they do raise the tubes up to the level of the chassis top and keeps it and them a bit cooler, so it works for me.

Full transparency: I returned my order, BUT, the overall quality of these tube savers seemed very good. Material and finish were excellent, especially at the price. However, these would not fit into the case of my Fosi Audio Box X2 Phono Preamp, as their diameter was just slightly too large. Check your measurements before you order.
