About this item

  • The variable cam timing solenoid, or VCT, is a specific term for a VVT, or variable valve timing solenoid. This solenoid is tasked with engaging and disengaging several timing mechanisms in the vehicle, essentially helping keep various moving parts working in tandem. Once that VCT solenoid malfunctions or burns out, your entire vehicle may experience problems, and you will need to get the solenoid replaced.
  • You will need to get the solenoid replaced eventually, and you can look for early warning signs that the solenoid is starting to fail. The check engine light may come on, and there may be some leaking around the solenoid. In some instances, the solenoid will continue to advance all the time, and this can cause engine misfires, excessive vibrations when the car is idling and unexpected changes in engine power.
  • This VCT Camshaft Variable Valve Timing Solenoid Set Fits for 2004-2013 Ford Expedition V8 5.4L; 2006-2010 Ford Explorer V8 4.6L; 2007-2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac V8 4.6L; 2004 Ford F150 Truck New Body Style V8 5.4L; 2005-2008 Ford F150 Truck V8 5.4L; 2009-2010 Ford F150 Truck V8 4.6L; 2005-2010 Ford F250 Super Duty Truck V8 5.4L; 2005-2010 Ford F350 Super Duty Truck V8 5.4L; 2005-2010 Ford Mustang V8 4.6L; 2005-2013 Lincoln Navigator V8 5.4L; 2006-2010 Mercury Mountaineer V8 4.6L;
  • Includes: 2x VCT Solenoids - Replaces OEM Part # 8L3Z-6M280-B; 2x Camshaft Seals - Replaces OEM Part # 7L1Z6C535AA; 2x VCT Solenoid screws. • The Camshaft Variable Valve Timing Solenoid or VVT Solenoid control the engine's Camshaft shafts on your Ford 5.4L or 4.6L V8 Triton engine. When the factory VCT solenoids fail it can lead to poor fuel economy, a check engine light (CEL), and rough running conditions on your F-150, Expedition, or other Ford vehicle.

Locating the VVT solenoid. It is located at the front of the engine, typically near the front of the valve cover.

Locate and remove seal and mounting bolt. Start by removing the seal , and then the mounting bolts.Be careful not to drop them in any crevices or openings in the engine compartment.

Remove the connector on the solenoid and solenoid.

Insert the solenoid. Take the new solenoid and insert it into the mounting surface hole.

Insert the mounting screws and seal. Get the mounting screws started and tighten them snugly; it doesn't require too much torque.

Seals were properly set. I'm an expert mechanic on the 5.4L Ford. The valves work so far, but seals leaked so I dabbed RTV around them. Melling HV oil pump maybe too much pressure? I think just loose fitting seal.

We were having problems with rough idle after warm up. Awful death rattle noises. Unplugged the VVT solenoid and got a check engine light but the issue went away. Seemed like a faulty solenoid was to blame. replaced with these inexpensive parts to see if that was it. Suddenly the issue is fixed. Long term if these fail I will buy factory OEM, but in the short term it was worth it just to get 2 of the valve cover gasket/seals. The OEM seals cast as much as this whole kit. Seems like a great value at the moment. Time will tell.
