1.Style:3pc Carbide Tool Set

  • We all know how "enjoyable" sharpening our turning tools can be. We also know that if you don't have the tool at just the right angle when turning the results can be more than undesirable.
  • When the mini carbide turning tool cutter dulls, simply rotate the tip for a fresh, clean cutting edge. The carbide tips will stay sharper longer compared to standard turning tools as well
  • The tips are replaceable when needed (sold in a pack of 3 with one of each cutter in the pack). Unlike standard tools, when using carbide tipped cutter such as these, you keep the cutter straight in on the turning which produces a shearing action.
  • This produces much cleaner cuts and tends to be easier then using standard turning tools. The handles each have molded grips that provide better grip and less fatigue after extended periods of use. These Tips are compatible with Easy Wood Tool mini and mid-size Carbide Tips.
  • Set includes the CUTTERS ONLY: 1 each round carbide cutter, 1 each 4" radius square carbide cutter, 1 each diamond shaped carbide cutter and 1 replacement screw.

I purchased these carbide tools as a start to my woodturning experience. I designed and built my own mini lathe with all parts purchased piecemeal thru Amazon. I “baptized” it with these tools. Being new to this hobby , I found that the tools performed great. They cut smoothly and cleanly. The rubber grips makes them comfortable to use. To me they are the right length for my mini lathe. The case they come in is foamed lined which is a plus. As mentioned by other reviewers who had the metal collars come loose, Savannah, the company, seems to have remedied this problem by inserting a metal pin through the collar which holds it to the handle. I’m more than satisfied with this purchase and would recommend it.

I have expensive Robert Sorby tools and cheap HF side by side within my turning setup. Folks may notice my sort of high-end Vicmarc chuck with sharkjaws sitting on a HF lathe costing half as much as the chuck. All this to say, I put my money where it matters for me in my turning experience.I didn't have any carbide turning tools until this set and I do like them. The carbide does excellent in hard woods and exotics. I found the flat cut on the bottom of each steel shaft was a good reminder of what level is while and to not use these like a traditional tool where a bevel often needs to ride the workpiece. Hold these with the point at center of the work piece and keep the tool shaft level and the results are quite good. I bought these to clean up an epoxy impregnated workpiece and didn't feel like beating up a traditional HSS cutting edge any more. They did a much better job with the mixed wood epoxy then any other tools I had. I have since used them in many US and exotichardwood with similar pleasing results. I was able to make two nice candle sticks from the ash with these with very minimal sanding and that job paid for the tools. Cutting edge retention is very good. Only after 4 hours of turning did I notice the first edge on the square cutter has finally started to show the abuse, albeit barely. Considering you can rotate the cutters to a new edge and two cutters per tool are included - that is a lot of material to be removing without so much as an edge dressing. I might invest in a diamond sharpener and see if I can return them to factor edge. Even if I can't it's probably worth the 10-20 dollars to buy new and get all three insert pairs again. If one is buying these for bowls larger than 3 inches deep or 8 inches in diameter I recommend buying the longer version for safety and more leverage. Anything under those dimensions and they are perfect.Update: I did buy a dual grit 1000 and 1500 diamond card sharpener and I was able to restore the factor edge. Still on the original inserts that came with the purchase.

This is a great product but there is one minor flaw the silver ring around the handle is a loose fit, This ring just might vibrate loose when turning, although I did not have this happen because I fixed it first before turning. The issue is easily fixed, just put some CA glue on the wood and press the ring back in place it fits well enough that the Ca glue will be able to bond it or at least mine dose. The carbide cutters are well polished and sharp on all of them they cut very well and leave a good surface i did experience some tear out on highly figured wood but that may have been user error, for those of you who know wood properties you have to cut in the down hill direction in order to get a tear out free cut. Cutting with the grain so to speak, i have not had any issues with the carbide dulling even though i took some fairly heavy cuts. Carbide turning tools are great for beginners or kids who are still learning to use the lathe there is not a specific way you have to hold the tool or specific movements needed for diffrent types of cuts. Over all these are great tools for a beginner, or hobbyist and I recommend them.

I’m brand new to wood turning.Im talking DAYS old... Until a week ago, I’ve never so much as even put my hands on a lathe. After several months worth of research, I decided to pull the trigger on my woodworking hobby idea and started loading down my shopping cart. Well, the carbide tip tools is the way I decided to go. I ordered the Delta 46-460 lathe, a nova chuck, and a few pieces of safety equipment to start this venture, and so far, it’s all I’ve needed. These tools were easy enough to teach myself to use. As with anything there’s a learning curve. I’ve never touched turning tools a day in my life and I’ve been turning out some pretty amazing stuff for a legally blind beginner. I turned a 7 1/2” Chinaberry bowl and lid with these tools without an issue. It was actually the first item I tried to make. I couldn’t be happier with the way they’ve performed so far. I just ordered a fine diamond card to see if I can sharpen the tips when they get a little dull. If that works, I’ll consider my decision to go with these as GOLDEN! Love these and would buy ‘em again in a heartbeat. Put your tool rest a little below center of your workpiece and hold the tools parallel to the ground and you’ll be turning out some pretty killer stuff. There’s a few other tricks I’ve found I could accomplish, but it would take too long to type out. Anyway, great tools at a fair price. I’m glad I got ‘emTroy/49/Tx
