About this item

  • This is a simple thermoelectric cooling system kit that includes a TEC1-12706 Peltier Plate, a Aluminum Heatsink with thermal tape, a 12V Cooling Fan.
  • They can be used in small cooling applications such as insulated coolers, small wine cooler cabinets and to cool CPUs in computers.
  • Simple operation, cooling quickly, outstanding effect and good practicability.
  • The printed side of the TEC device is the cold side. To check the TEC module before assembling the kit without concerns about damaging the device, you can power it off a lower voltage power supply such as 5V, you will feel one side getting colder while the other side gets warmer.
  • Note: It is important to not fully power this device unless the hot side heat sink and fan are in place or damage to the device can quickly result.

Product Description

Description

Thermoelectric Peltier Cooler modules are solid-state heat pumps that use DC current flow to transfer heat from one side of the device (cold side) to the other side of the device (hot side). The Peltier device used in this kit is the TEC1-12706 which is the most commonly used device.

The TEC1-12706 has one side with printed fonts for cooling, and the other side for heating. It is necessary to dissipate heat well on the heating surface during operation. Therefore, it is equipped with an aluminum heat sink with thermal tape and a 12V 6000-rpm bearing cooling fan.

If you want to achieve the best refrigeration effect, you can replace the larger cooling equipment to take away more heat.

Notice

1. There are no screws in this kit, the fan can be fixed with M6 screws or thermal glue.

2. Please do not turn on the power without installing the heatsink device, otherwise the TEC will be easily burnt out.

3. If you want to achieve the 12V best refrigeration effect, you can replace the larger cooling equipment to take away more heat.

Instructions

1. To check the TEC module without concerns about damaging the device, you can power it off a lower voltage power supply such as 5V where it will draw about 1.5A and you will feel one side getting colder while the other side gets warmer.

The aluminum heatsink+cooling fan can be used on the hot side of the TEC to take away the heat when the low voltage power supply is used.

Note that under 12V 6A, the radiator attached to this kit CANNOT meet the cooling requirements of the 12706, and a larger radiator is required on the hot side to achieve the best cooling effect.

2. The cold side can also be attached to this small aluminum heatsink, which acts as a cold radiator to help distribute the cold if desired for the application and prevent frost formation.

The technical- @9.4V and 1.7A, cold is 55-60*F and hot is easily 180+*F.The good- Heat sinks work, fans work, 2/3 Peltier plates work. For $15, I can live with a dead plate. The bad- As at least one other person noted, the heat sink and fans are woefully undersized. The thoughts- These are designed for 12V DC. Someone else noted that they fall into a heat death spiral at 12V, which I wholeheartedly believe. I'm using a half-dead car battery that is staying steady at 9.4V with one plate and one fan running. The cool side hovers somewhere around 55-60*F, with the heat sink hot to the touch. Seeing as how these run based on a temperature -differential- and not an actual -set- temperature, it's important to ensure sufficient hot side cooling in your design to achieve lower cold temps. So, nearly overheating while running at a lower voltage than intended while achieving nearly room-temperature "cooling..." yeah, the sink and fan are undersized. Flipping the voltage to get heat, the hot side quickly hit 180*F, which is when I disconnected it. It is important to note that these temps are with the system unloaded. Meaning, I don't know what the actual "work" temp is when trying to keep something hot or cold. I filled a jar lid with water, and the water is about the same temp as a water cooler. No heat experiments yet.Takeaways and recommendations- This set offers good value for money just to experiment. For cooling, a bigger heat sink and fan are absolutely necessary, and are readily available. For heat, there will need to be a sufficient load (to absorb the heat) to keep the plate from burning up. Tomorrow, I will be running these things through a PWM knob to see what happens at around 7.4V, which is my most probable system voltage at this point.

Nothing. These don't do jack squat at all. Time, money.. I think I'd rather have had air, and it won't move anything (air). So, I'm still stuck with a heat issue, and am out of money. Experimental failure. These things are less than worthless. Sadly I hate making a review, and giving any stars to this is, not really worth the time to put in, plus I'm out the money and not interested in wasting time playing postage. How frustrating.

Spent hours of testing to finally realize this heatsink is not capable of removing 10% of the energy this chip is capable of generating. The tiny fans are a joke, push or pull does not matter. Even with a HUGE fan, 10x the air volume, the wussy little heatsink can't do the job. It was an experiment, but it was carefully instrumented with voltage, current and temperature on both sides of the junction. Don't waste your time with this setup. The Peltier module is OK but the rest is a mismatched joke. An expensive and time consuming joke on me.

Does what it claims -- neat little devices for demonstrating solid-state thermoelectric cooling.Minus one star for not including mounting screws for the fan, necessitating a scavenger hunt.

I have a "Mini fridge" that I have had for years. I stopped using it for about 6 months. When I started to use it again, it didn't cool at all. I found these and they were a perfect replacement for the one that was in the fridge. I am very happy with them and the temp is very cold in the fridge now.
