The GPS battery is easy to replace!
The battery is at the back of the device, just remove it and replace it with a new one.
1. Use the GPS portable aviation receiver often, try to use it at least 2 to 3 times a week.
2. Keep the GPS powered on when not in use.
3. Place the GPS in a dry and cool place
Avoid exposure to sunlight and keep away from heat sources such as heating equipment, hot exhaust vents, etc.
4. Remove the battery and store it for a long time
If you do not use the GPS for a few weeks or more, remove the battery after it is fully charged and store it in a cool and dry place. When you need to use it again, install the battery and fully charge it. The battery power that is idle outside will gradually decrease. Generally, The battery can be fully charged once every 3 months to obtain good performance.
5. When the battery is in normal operation, if the battery is discharged to 3%, it must be shut down or recharged. If the battery is discharged to 0%, the battery will be damaged and its life will be attenuated.
Note: Do not disassemble, impact, squeeze, or put into water, do not place in a high-temperature environment.

I have an older Garmin 496 probably one of the early models of them. Although the Battery fits in decently it doesn’t catch. They must’ve changed the measurement of the cats just slightly so the newer batteries do not work. I’ve tried several brands. None of them work I had to modify the latch area just to get it to hold on so I could actually use it With the Garmin clip the clips around the 496. It holds it in with my adaptions you must find a different manufacturer that has older template.

The description says that it fits "396" but it does NOT fit my Zumo 396 LMT-S, not even close... not even the same form factor. My Zumo takes a circuit-board mounted battery, and this one is an external clip on, like an old video camera. It looks well made, and came packaged nicely, but it's not for my 396. Be careful.

The battery would not lock in position. Since I need the GPS quickly had to force the battery in place took a lot of force to seat the battery.
