My son used this tool to quickly and easily zip open the crab leg. However, he was disappointed that the tool sliced the crab meat in half, as well. Of course, this was the first time he had tried it, and it could be user error.

These crab pickers were a great surprise. They are very heavy duty and worked perfectly on steamed crab. We had them for a party of 70 and not one of them broke and they "cut" through the legs with ease.
