YG6 carbide is a high-performance material that is commonly used in cutting tools due to its exceptional hardness and wear resistance. I had a wide array of Freud and Whiteside bits that I have used for many years. However, I am a fan of acquiring decent quality more comfortably priced bits that are hard carbide. The reason for that flexibility is because occasionally you run into a need for a bit that is out of the ordinary. As a matter of fact, I bought an entire 40-piece bit set with a lot of different configurations. That way the one-off need isn't thwarted. For my main bits as I mentioned I use the aforementioned top of the line bits for example in making cabinet drawer faces etc. When you feel the edge on these blades, they are more than sufficiently sharp even for hardwoods. I did a search asking about YG6 carbide that I quoted in my opening statement. So, I am giving this thumbs up both for price and fitness ability of purpose.

These bits work well on really soft wood. They struggle on hard wood due to their length. If your wood has a tendency to burn like cherry or maple, I'd try to find a better way to cut out that much material. Keep the passes thin and the material relatively soft and these will cut clean.

I have not tried these in the router yet. But did take a very close look at the cutting edges with a 9x magnifier. And the grind on the carbide is very good. I did touch them up slightly with a 1,000 emory stick. I do that with all my new router bits. I also clean them before build up has a chance to take hold. I have learned over the years to clean my bits and blades often. If you wait till you see lumps of build up, you are way late for cleaning!

I'm not sure what the price of comparable bits would cost if you were to look for Whiteside or Freud versions of this set but I'm pretty sure they would cost a good bit more. The question becomes, how will this set hold up in comparison. Only true time will tell. They cut cleanly so far and I'm glad I didn't have to invest a bunch for them.

I got this extra-long straight router bit with a 1/2" shank, and it’s a unique tool for working with really thick boards. The 3" cutting length allows for deep, clean cuts in a single pass, which is great for dados and straight cuts in hardwood and plywood. The carbide-tipped double flute design helps with smooth cutting and chip removal. It fits securely in my router and holds up well under heavy use. If you need a router bit that can handle deep cuts in thick materials, this one gets the job done efficiently.

Upon receiving this 3 piece router bit set, I installed the bits one at a time in my router table and made some test cuts through hard maple. The resulting cuts were smooth without any chatter or burning. Each of the bits performed quite nicely and I was very happy with the resulting cuts. I obviously cannot speak to the longevity of these bits since I just received them, Howevet I think for the price this set is a great value. If you're looking for the extra long straight router bits I think you would be quite pleased with these.
