I had a MIM Jazz bass that I converted to active pots. I didn't like the result and switched back to passive electronics. I decided to upgrade the original MIM pots with these and my bass sounds fantastic. I'm really happy with the result, including installing Bartolini noise-cancelling pickups. My bass has a great traditional sound without any hum.

I bought this kit to upgrade a nice strat that had worn out puts(and one broke) and am completely happy with these. I modified one to be a no-load pot to do the neck pickup blend mod(one pot can blend in the neck pickup with any other 5-way setting). Not as cool as the freeway 10-way switch, but that switch is around $50!

I used these to swap out the cheap Chinese mini pots on my squire Strat. One of them came with a bad crackle but I sprayed a little deoxit inside of it and they have been working like a dream ever since. The taper feels really nice and the cap, although a little big, sounds good. I wired mine as a tone cut on the neck and middle leaving the bridge wide open and its pretty sick.

If you have an inexpensive guitar this is a worthwhile upgrade. I added these to a Squier Mustang which is a $150 guitar, and it definitely made a difference from the original pots. You will need to be able to solder to install these which is a skill I recommend every musician acquires. The capacitor has some heft and these are full size pots, so make sure you have clearance prior to installation.

First--in short--these were a huge improvement in sound from the stock pots in my MIJ late '80s Fender Jazz '75 reissue bass. I don't know the capacitance of the original green cap, but this orange drop made a HUGE improvement to the usefulness of the tone control. It actually sounds the best now with the tone all of the way down--still punchy, tight bass--just with the highs rolled-off. Before, I'd never turn the tone down because it just turned to muffled, thin-sounding, mud. Also, with each of the volume pots turned all of the way down, one at a time--it sounds like a completely different bass. Before, for any kind of definition, I'd have to have both volumes turned all of the way up.OK, as for splines. From online diagrams, there are either 18 (coarse) or 24 (fine) splined shafts... and they should either have 8 or 10 splines on each side of a split shaft. So, on these I count 9-1/2. Yes--very much to my frustration. So, that being closer to 10 than 8, I rounded up & figured they're "fine" and not "course". I wanted to share the comparison photo to show, indeed, they are the same shaft size, but not same # of splines.When forcing the wrong type of knob (originals), I completely pushed the pot apart. The prongs of the housing that fold over the other side to keep the pot together easily gave way and the whole thing fell apart. It was easily put back together and the prongs bent back into place without becoming fatigued and breaking (whew). Even with the correct type of knob, I might recommend pushing them on while applying force to the back of the pot at the same time to not strain the weak prongs (so before you mount the plate back onto the guitar). I think I found the correct type of replacement knobs, "Musiclily Pro Imperial Inch Size 2 Large 1 Small Jazz Bass Knobs Set for USA Made JB Style Bass, Black"--so I'm ordering those next.As for smoothness of operation - I've only used these a short while (probably I would not hesitate to order this kit again... in fact, I'm about to order more for my electric guitars.

Got these wired into a cheap used 5 string OLP bass to give it a Fender Jazz-esque control scheme with the added push-pull parallel/series wiring mod. I only used two of the three pots in this package, since none of them are push-pull, but it still turned out to be a good deal since this included the correct capacitor rating I needed for even less than buying two pots and the cap individually.The back of the pots take heat and solder very well so I didn't have an issue getting the wiring properly grounded. The only issue is that these aren't mini pots and the capacitor is quite large. This is not an issue with the product at all. Just be careful if you don't have a lot of room in the wiring cavity of the instrument if your using this product for a similar reason I was. I ended up having to dremel a bit of the cavity to make it larger because the sides of the pots were hitting the wall and some screw holes weren't lining up. In the end, it worked great and everything worked without issue and no crackling! Super excited about it and the pots have a nice feel to them. Not much resistance when turning them but also not completely freewheeling, they'll hold their position well.

The CTS and Orange Drop names are very well known and well respected in the guitar building community and for good reason. The CTS pots have a smooth feel and even taper, and the Orange Drop caps produce great sounds when you start to roll the tone knob back. I installed these in my Jazz Bass and they did a great job of cleaning up the signal and restoring some of the higher frequencies and gave much better note definition. Can't recommend them enough.
