This is an item that's incredibly hard to find in regular stores and honestly it is worth its weight and gold. It worked incredibly well when I had a very low profile above a cabinet, Will definitely use again if I need!

While this product is perfect for certain situations, the mounting system is flawed.I'd read other reviewers mention an earlier version of the product had 2 mounting screws, one on each side, while the current version has just one mounting screw in the center. This center mounting screw will work for SOME installations but not others. For instance, if the obstacle is directly in the center of the light hole, or the wall space is very shallow, this won't work as is. My situation fell into the former -- pluming supply pipe running right down the middle of where I want to mount a light. See pictures. The mounting screw they provide is fairly long. Far too long for my application as-is. If I had enough space to use the supplied mounting screw I'd have used a far cheaper shallow cut-in box. This can be made to work. And since mine came with no instructions, I'll outline what I did.1. Screw the mounting screw thru the claw bracket, from the back side so it will protrude into the light box.2. If you use the stock screw, it will protrude way to far into the light box for most light fixtures. You'll have to cut the screw (using a suitable pair of side cutters) once you've got the light box mounted securely. Easy if you have the tools.Or, use a shorter screw as I did.3. Putting the screw in from the back also presents a problem. When you go to tighten the nut to make the claw grab the wall board, the screw will back out and you won't get the fixture tight. You can solve this in 1 of 2 ways.3A. Tighten the screw into the claw bracket REALLY tightly, maybe with a thin star washer. It may hold enough to get your fixture tight and still allow the claw to grab the wall board.3B. Put a backing nut on the screw to keep the screw from turning when tightening. IF you do this you WILL need to bend the claw toward the wallboard or else it won't touch the wall board when the nut is tightened. This is easy to do and effective.4. Slide the claw bracket, with secured screw in the bracket, behind the wallboard. Then slide the light box over the screw. Use the supplied nut to tighten it to your satisfaction. In doing this, neither did the center screw hit my obstacle (plumbing pipe), nor did the center screw protrude beyond the plane of the front of the light box. My light fixture is surface mount and has not place for the wires thus I need everything to fit inside the light box, including the mounting hardware. In the end this worked out for me, but was a big hassle getting it mounted.I happen to have an assortment of screws & nuts so no extra trips to the store. I drop a star as I think the previous design is more flexible, and they didn't include an extra nut and a couple other mounting screws of various length to do what I did w/o going to the store.

This worked great to relocate a vanity light in front of a vent pipe, but needed some modifications. You may have to use a shorter screw as it is likely that the obstruction in the wall cavity interferes. You may also have to trim the vinyl tube "spacer" down if the screw interferes with your fixture's mounting bracket. No issues so far supporting an 8 lb vanity light.Bummer that this is only $5 in the US but what choice do we have.

Garvin made some great products, so great that Southwire bought the company and is sunsetting the name. I hope they don’t sunset the creativity and quality Garvin was known for. This is a unique product that’s needed to some a not uncommon problem.

My original fixture had no electrical box, and the new light fixture needed one. It was simple enough to install, and I feel very confident it is safe in its installation in such a narrow cavity due to internal plumbing stack n other utilities. It is sturdy enough to hold the weight of the light fixture as seen in my photos. I had a difficult time finding these at home centers, so I’m glad I found it for sale on Amazon.

Like many of you I ran into the problem of removing an old light fixture only to find out there was no junction box behind it, as well as a pipe leaving no room for a junction box. When I saw this flat box I thought it could work. It comes with no instructions, but here's what I did.Attach the bracket with the teeth to the round box using the long screw. The round will go in a 4 inch hole that you cut out, the bracket will be behind the wall, teeth digging into the wall as you tighten the screw. A shorter screw didn't work for me as it didn't allow enough space to wiggle the bracket behind the wall.Once it's loosely in place, you tighten the screw to attach it firmly. You should not be able to move the round, it should be flush against the wall. I didn't end up using the short screw and the little rubber tube that came with the package. After install the long screw in the middle was in the way of the light fixture mounting plate. I used a bolt cutter to cut the screw shorter to make room for the mounting plate.I mounted a vanity light of about 8 lbs to it, no problem with that! Conclusion: Yes it's pricey for what it is, yes it's a pain to install, but it got a job done that I didn't see any other solution for, so I'm super happy that it solved my problem!

Works great, easy to use if you are even remotely handily. I have plaster walls and had a stud blocking almost half of the hole and this box fit perfectly. Made the job very easy!

This solved our problem of centering powder room light over sink when renovating . Vent stack directly in the way, and of course no stud to attach to in the right place. Instructions would be nice, even a link. We found a video, that lead us to this product to use. One thing is the one screw provided too short to fit behind drywall, so substituted slightly longer one.Price pretty high,Glad we found one regardless.

This item is a great invention. I wanted to play a light fixture right where a vent pipe was under the drywall. The pan provides a fix to exactly this problem. It worked fine. I used some masking tape to hole the grabbing part in place while I placed the pan in position.

This pancake box worked extremely well for a light installation that had minimal clearance caused by a waste stack behind the drywall. Installation was straight forward although there were no instructions provided. Unfortunately the actual box I received was slightly different from the one pictured on Amazon (one mounting screw instead of 2 that was pictured on the manufacturer's website). Also, no instructions made it difficult to understand why two different screws (varying length) were included. Overall, the box worked as advertised and I would certainly buy again if needed.
