The internal thread is either NPS or very loose NPT. 6 wraps of thick pink Teflon tape and my fittings are still not very snug.

I have several aquariums and have used many different brands of bulkheads. These are by far the worst bulkheads I have come across. The external male threads do not line up across injection mold seam. The internal female threads do not seal. On ll 4 of the bulkheads I could not get any standard NPT threaded PVC fitting to seal without leaking using teflon tape or teflon pipe paste. When trying to screw a NPT fitting in far enough to get a good seal the very brittle plastic on these bulkheads would crack.I threw all 4 of these away and will never buy another "AM" brand pipe fitting. Save yourself a lot of headache and pay a bit more for one of the name brand bulkheads.

Use these for outdoor rain barrels, sealed with silicone sealant.Connected nine barrels with 3/4" pvc, no water pressure to speak of,so don't need to glue any connections. No leaks or drips so far, even with thisTexas heat wave.

Bought 16 missing 2 I'm sure they will resolve the missing items some way so 5 starts for quality and speed. 1 star for incorrect order but hey we all mess up.

These work well in situations where they will not be jarred. If you are using them in an aquarium, perfect. They will work very well for you. If you are planning on using them to make rain barrels, these MIGHT work well for you. The problem lies in the bulkhead nut. The plastic bulkhead nut can "hop threads" backward, coming loose and leaking, if jarred/bumped/thwacked/tapped/looked at too hard/etc. Now, it CAN be fixed, and usually quickly (just retighten the nut) but there will be some leakage in the meantime. Since this is beyond what these bulkheads are really intended for, I did not rate it a 1 star and tear into them in the review. This is just intended to let others know who might be looking at an inexpensive way to make water transfer barrels or something similar. There is a brass version of these bulkheads available that might serve the purpose slightly better. ( )So in short, if you are planning on using these in a permanent fixture, something that you don't plan on getting moved or jostled in any major way, these will work great. But if you are using these, say, in a 55-gallon drum that sits in the back of your truck and it gets bumped with a piece of lumber, you might be looking at a water leak.

I was looking for a way to connect 4 plastic 55-gallon drums in a rain barrel system I was installing. This was a wonderfully inexpensive solution to most of the alternative products designed for this purpose. I was able to fit these into the bottom of each barrel, and use off-the-shelf pvc fittings from home depot to pipe them together and allow them to equalize as they fill. Nice having them in the bottom of the barrel, as I'll not have any water trapped when I drain for the winter. Installed easily and sealed perfectly.
