The rubber is old or was not to quality standards. Dry cracking in the rubber hold down band can be seen when stretching showing improper molding process or pour quality of material and age.

Look, I've always wanted to own a row boat, or even kayaks, but it was never in the budget. However, I play the Djembe drum as do my kids from time to time, and for the airflow it needs to be either tilted or suspended in the air. We all like playing with a straight sitting posture so I got this 4 pack set of boat hook holders so that it lifts the drum up from the ground, and we can still play in the sitting position.They are made from a hard rubber, that is non marring.Comes bagged and they do smell like a strong rubber compound so it is best to air them out prior to use in the house.
