I wish it were more powerful than it is, however it's definitely a handy replacement. I really like how the charging cord holds right up to the back.

I do DIY art installations occasionally which sometimes lasers are used to enhance an installation of something else as well as where the visual imagery gotten from manipulating the laser is the art itself. I have a couple of events over the next month and after experimenting with 405 nm and their effects on certain colors I decided to add two 20mW modules to my kit in the hopes that the increased power would allow me to do some experiments at these events in large outdoor spaces.I guess that’s not going happen now unless I find a legit vendor for more powerful lasers. The modules I received were exactly what was pictured in the advertisement but there’s no way they are 20mW. I bought a 5mW keychain type 405nm module a few weeks ago to carry around and experiment with easily while I can’t be sure it’s a full 5mW it’s definitely no stronger than that and these two modules that are supposed 4x stronger are the exact same. For all practical purposes these are keychain type lasers that you have to plug into a wall 🤣 I mean they aren’t terrible but they’re not what I thought I ordered and not nice enough to justify keeping. I’ve already got a 405nm 5mW that runs forever off a couple of batteries. They also don’t come with any documentation showing the specs whether actual or advertised except for a vague label that says 405nm Module. This is something I have seen more than once from sellers of budget Chinese lasers doing that’s kind of worrying since lasers can be dangerous for sure and if I has received something 5 times more powerful than I ordered and came with no or false specifications then someone could have easily suffered eye damage or worse if. With that in mind do your due diligence, educate yourself a little about lasers before getting more powerful ones, and make sure you’re being safe especially when you have something new that you don’t know if there’s issues with it yet.

I got this to experiment with and for the price at the time it was well worth it. Creates a decent amount of light and with the lens able to be focused, you are able to get it down to a tiny pinpoint that will burn things if held there for long enough. If you really wanted this to burn things you’d have to add power to it and add some kind of cooling aspect. I ran this off of a small variable power supply and pushing it past 5v does make it more powerful and able to burn things but it also creates much more heat.

Very in distinct light must be fairly dark to see it.

No light emission. LED on the power driver is lit, and I tested the laser in a dark environment. I'm surprised no QC was performed before the laser and driver were packaged and shipped.

I've used this to repair parts that I've broken. Cures resin quickly.

Our application was to use this laser as an excitation source for luminescence spectroscopy, using an Ocean Optics spectrograph/diode array as detector. It works beautifully. What I did not expect was remarkable stability of the laser source. Based on our estimates, the intensity varies less than 1% over a period of 15 minutes irradiation. We took the output and passed it down the length of a 1 m fiber optic cable and through a spectrophotometric cell (w/ Ocean optics sample holder). We have only used it 2-3 times, so I can say nothing yet about durability.
