I had to attach grab bars in an acrylic/fiberglass shower for an elderly friend. The challenge was to find a fastener that would work with the thin and potentially brittle material and be short enough that it would not penetrate the wall behind the shower walls. The hold must be strong enough that it would not pull the fasteners out when the grab rail is used, nor will it become loose over time.These fastners, "mini-molley's" were a perfect solution.I chose stainless steel because the application will include water splashes (not immersion). I wrapped pipe thread tape around the circumfrence (outside edge) before inserting it in the hole that I drilled and deburred. Once tightened I removed the screw and before attaching the bracket wrapped pipe thread tape around the screw as well. Maybe not waterproof but highly water resistant and corrosion resistant.This fastener unlike a molley made for dry wall will spin in the hole until it has expanded enough to grip. There is apparently a tool for this that will hold it so that it doesn't spin. Unless you have a small pair of locking pliers (vise grip-type) then I recommend purchasing the installation tool as well. I found that needle nose pliers were not adequate to grip and hold the stainless steel lip while I tightened and expanded the fastener.The fastener is made of a grade of stainless steel that is magnetic. I have tested the corrosion resistance by immersing one of the fasteners in water, half water, and dried then repeated the test. They do not rust.

What can you say about hardware other that It Works! We needed the expanding screws to mount an outdoor solar light to a metal post. These are made of stainless steel so they won't rust outside in the elements. They arrived quickly and I was able to securely attach the light and feel confident that it will be there for a long time due to the strength of these expanding screws.

This is a handy set of threaded insert pedal screws for dry wall. To use, drill a hole of size 5/16 inch into a thin (thickness 1/2 - 5/8 inch) hollow soft wall, e.g. dry wall, then press the screw assembly into the hole. Then tighten the screw and the three pedals of the screw will spread out and self-anchor into the soft wall. The depth of the expanded pedal is 1/4 inch (see picture, left - original screw, right - tightened screw with pedal spread out).
