It works and is reliable, more than the OREI I was using before which would occasionally glitch and need a power reset. It puts out a 48khz 24 bit signal from the HDMI out of my Spectrum 3600 DVR box

This little adapter works great for my DVD/blue ray player to get great sound with my soundbar. Since my tv has horrible audio with only one speaker. Recommend this product.

Merci Amazon!

I was looking for a way to extract the audio out of my fire cube when I am watching a movie thru the movie apps I have downloaded , the way the cube is built is hard to split and extract the real audio power (DTS not a Dolby Digital) to iMAX complex audio video system so this little wonder make my basement audio cinema setup feels like I am right at the theater, I don’t have to change any audio settings on my system, just turn on my surround system if I want real theater sound and because the cube is connected directly to the the box and then split the signal to my audio theater system to my eight speaker system, the connection is a little complicated but I am an AV technician so is kind of easy for me but if you follow the instructions that come with the product will be easy for you as well or watch videos on you tube to walk you thru the installation, so in a few words if you are a movie theater sound fanatic like me and don’t want to spend hundreds on a profesional system get this little wonder box and connect it to your current audio video system to experience the real thing enjoying your movies in the comfort of your house. Just need to add the popcorn as an extra.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I’m just so pleased with this splitter. I thought I needed to buy a new tv. We didn’t have a port for an optical cord to connect our surround sound. I had already bought several other cords and connectors, none of which have worked. Then I found this! It’s easy to use, shipped quickly, and was just what we needed. As soon as I connected everything (I connected this to my tv, Apple tv, and soundbar), our sound bar started working with the tv instantly! So much cheaper than buying a new tv! I definitely recommend this product. It works!

I have a Sonos playbase which only had an optical port for the sound input. For some reason my TV had a problem with its port and I did not want just give up my Sonos especially when it’s worth over £600 when I got it.Looked around and saw this on YouTube. I ordered and installed easily. I have had this months now and had no issues.Picture & sound are on point.

This is an amazing little piece of tech. Being that I'm almost deaf, I have to rely on my headphones to hear anything from the TV. This is complicated by the fact that I have a home these system. Most systems do not have an optical audio out, and most TV's don't allow simultaneous output to two sources. This little guy allows you to take an HDMI feed from the receiver and split the audio out from it and output it via optical audio or 3.5 mm Jack. It will then allow up to a 4k 30hz HDMI signal back to the TV. The result is a true 4k picture on the screen, digital audio coming out the home theater for my wife to enjoy, and digital audio coming out the headphones for me to enjoy. As an added bonus, I can keep the AV receiver turned off, still have a picture on the TV, and hear from my headphones when it's just me watching... So overall if you need headphones to enjoy byour TV like me, or if you need to power two sets of speakers like say your TV area and and an outdoor area this little guy will be a very easy way to get that done. Overall the build quality seemed top notch, the unit is a bit on the heavy side. However they do include all the necessary cables, However you will need to supply a USB port for power ( most smart TVs have USB ports available, and I think anyone with a smart phone has at least one USB power brick laying around collecting dust..) so that shouldn't be too big of an obstacle. Other than that, connect the output from your home theater (HDMI) to this guy and connect the output (HDMI) to your TV and the digital audio to your headphones, speakers, really anything that you want to output audio that uses SPDIF connections. Connect up the USB power and thats it! After just enjoy, there is really no further set up needed. There is a switch on the box to format the audio both in and out for different surround sound configurations. However I recommend keeping it on pass through as this will require no further set up.

I bought this device to connect my PS4 Slim (without optical) to a wireless headset. For that use case, it suits my needs. However, there are a few caveats:- It does not transcode audio. If your source sends 5.1 LPCM, 2 channel LPCM is sent via optical. It doesn't re-encode to AC-3 or DTS, but I suppose that's reasonable for an inexpensive device. The source device must use bitstream output for surround sound.- It does not pass all codecs through the HDMI output. If you have DTS-HD MA coming in, you'll only get DTS going out. I'm not sure what happens with TrueHD or E-AC-3. It's not an issue for me, because 5.1 LPCM seems to work fine.- The HDMI output does not support more than 5.1 LPCM. If you've got a 7.1 or 9.1 system, it won't work. However, an added bonus, it comes with an optical cable, a minijack to RCA cable, and a mini USB cable, which I was not expecting.
