At first, I thought replacing the entire bathroom fan, including its mounting box, was necessary. But after some research, I discovered that only the fan/motor needed replacement. The model I chose was designed as a substitute for the 696N-R02, fitting my current setup perfectly, and the exchange was remarkably simple. Minor adjustments were needed, like bending the metal tabs for a snug fit and securing it with tape, which was likely superfluous. The new fan operates at 2 Sones, a notable reduction from the previous 4 Sone model, providing the tranquility I sought in replacing the old unit of 15 years. Pleased with this upgrade, I intend to purchase additional units for the remaining bathrooms.
