I would leave 5 stars because this hood is simple and works as advertised...but SSE has emailed me 3 times over the past week and a half asking me to leave a review. I read the first one. I didn't have time to leave a review. I also don't have time to read 2 more emails that say the same thing. Well here is the review: -1 star for each annoying spam email they sent me.

I will echo most reviewers of this lens hood -- it seems well suited for use with the non-STM (previous generation) Canon "Nifty Fifty" (). The relatively flimsy plastic construction of the otherwise brilliant Nifty Fifty is a good reason not to attach a rigid plastic hood to this lens, and this rubber lens hood offers some protection in a more forgiving way. For me, the lens hood arrived in good shape, easily screws onto the filter threads, and is easy to extend and collapse as needed. Being made from a flexible rubber, the shape of the hood may take a set if it is squeezed or stretched while in a bag, etc., but I think if it is stored with the hood collapsed any shape changes should be minimized. This lens hood was definitely a good purchase for this lens.

Doesn't fit at all. Tried to attach it to my 50mm f/1.8 lens, and the interface wasn't compatible. Can't even use it.

this is my first rubber hood, and I love it, I can actually use it in tree positions or extensions, all the way back, half way and all extended, it fit nicely on the 50mm prime canon lens and because this lens is narrow this cover never shown on the image.great price good product.

durable and does the job , very light and easy to put in your camera bag !I had mounted on my 50mm 1.8 "fantastic plastic" and somebody pumped into me and it did not hurt my lense , I think if I had a plsatic hood it would have hurt my plasticy lense but rather it did fine with this rubber hood !

Nice quality, seems to be of good heavy rubber.Very functional.Unfortunately, the way it was crammed in the box it is seriously out-of-round making it less functional, not as easily popped open and somewhat cheap - looking on the lens.

The hood takes up limited space but provides a lot of protection. With it on, I can still put a filter and lens cap on with no problem. It extends to more than three times the size of the picture. My camera fits well in all of my bags with it on.

Almost purchased the canon specific lens hood, but read many reviews stating that although a very good lens the 50mm does have a plastic housing and the rigid lens hood could be stressful if hit on a hard surface. Remember these hoods have a dual purpose, to block direct light and flares and as a first line of defense against accidental collision with hard surfaces. I highly recommend this universal hood, it fit well and the lens cap is still easy to put on. It also still fits in my tight shoulder bag. As for the product image, it is shown in collapsed form. This hood accordians out into 2 other positions. In its fully extended position I saw no shadowing or interference with my test photos. Then just collapse of down for easy storage.
