I really like these clips/clamps. They’re incredibly useful for outdoor oil painting and are easy to carry anywhere. They don't take up much space or add weight to your setup, but they’re essential. When you have several, they effectively keep your wet oil paintings protected from smudging.

I used 9x12" canvases with a 5/8" depth (roughly 1.5 cm) in my photos - I hope to try these with larger canvases soon and report back.Plein air painting or storing wet canvases, there's always the worry of the wet surfaces rubbing together, smearing the work and transferring paint between them. These clips are meant to solve that problem. There are double-sided pushpin-like separators that solve the same problem, but I've always been worried about handling them without getting gouged/stuck.When I first started putting the clips on two canvases, I got frustrated. I thought only 2 clips would work for my smaller canvases, but it wasn't very stable. Once I put the four clips on, the connection firmed up considerably. These will only work for canvases or panels that are approx. 5/8" wide. I am pretty sure they will not work with thin canvas panels or a wider stretched canvas profile. When they are on the canvases, most of the gripping surface on the canvas itself is on the part directly over the stretcher bars. You can see this in my third photo. So these probably will not dent your canvas surfaces. There is some contact where the paint will likely be, but that will be a problem with almost any wet canvas carrying solution.
