I have a workbench with a 1.5-inch butcher block top. This vise clamps on the top of the bench and secures with a single machine screw, up from the bottom. Using the short screws to attach the vise to the clamp, the vise does not rub or scrape on the top of the workbench. The vise is sturdy and easily movable in any direction. The six-inch jaws are well-engineered and durable. The anvil also works well.If I want to remove or re-attach the vise on the bench it takes me less than 30 seconds. This thing is no toy; it is the real deal! If you're even thinking about ordering this vise, I have one piece of advice....ORDER IT NOW!

This is plenty good enough for me. I've got it on a bench in my basement. I've used it quite a bit. It works well. It's not like a hundred year old vise that is as solid as a train rail. However, it is plenty solid enough for me to hammer ¼ in steel to bend it over.Make sure your bench can withstand what this vise can.

I got this Vice because I was looking fir a vice that i could take out to use in my shed and various other locations. Prior to getting this for my portable vice needs I had used a 4 inch Irwin vice attached to a piece of mdf that was then clamped with 2 c-clamps to the bench. So that is what I will be comparing to.Out of the box the vice and the bench clamp are 2 separate pieces so you could potentially direct mount the vice if you did not want to use the clamp although I would recommend against that use case because you are already paying a premium for the clamp. When i first set it up to try it out I was disappointed in how poorly it handled twisting forces, one of the more common things i use a vice for is to hold pneumatic and hydraulic assemblies for tightening and the base of vice would readily twist off the bench I had it attached to, putting some ducktape on the top clamping face (the rubbery back of the tape adds grip to the tabletop when clamped) and lubricating the bench clamp screw did mitigate the issue but at this price point they should have been able to put a piece of rubber for grip on at the factory. Also there is a bit of slop in the central bolt the vice rotates on so it can still move around even after you have tightened down the twist lockMoving on to the jaw it uses a large faced diamond pattern for grip I prefer this to the interlocking serrations on my other vice jaws as you are less likely to emboss your part with the vice jaw pattern. It is a 6inch jaw but on a narrow frame the frame is a lot smaller than even my 4 inch vice, so i would not expect it to hold up to rough use as well as my other vice but it does make feeding long objects through the jaws a lot nicer as you have a lot more room on the sides of the jaws that is not above the frame of the vice. The jaw opens to about 3 3/8 inches about a 1/4 inch further than my other vice.I'll finish off this review with a couple last notes.Unlike my other vice the main clamping screw is exposed so you need to watch for contaminants and cant grease it like you would a traditional vice, on the other hand it allows the screw to be tapped right into the body of the base instead of a stalk, so I don't see this as a likely point of failure for the vice. the alignment tang on the other hand is a lot smaller and appears to be a piece of bar stock attached into the moving jaw and if i were to guess this is the weak point of the mechanism.Overall an ok light duty vice but I would have liked to see a bit more from it at the 99.99 list price that it is selling for at the time of review.
