One edge of the thicker foam pieces never expanded, and remained compressed. The thinner pieces expanded ok.

I got these pick apart foam inserts for the more delicate instruments in my packout kit.All of the backers and two of the four pick apart pieces were fine.Two of the pick apart pieces seemed like they had been vacuumed packed while still hot or overheated during the process. The foam was misshapen even after letting them air out for a week before attempting to use them. Undeterred, I tried a couple things before I gave up on them. First, I tried massaging the foam to see if it would pop up to the normal rectangular shape. Not excactly. So I tried something else. I tried stretching the foam, thinking that the normally open cell foam had suffered from a number of closed cells that were still vacuum packed. This did the trick for the most part. What were some badly compressed and misshapen pieces turned to mostly rectangular/square pieces relatively quickly.So, if you get one that feels compact and has the rounded shape of the vacuum bag, try stretching the foam in at least two directions and give it a few more minutes. If you break the tiny vacuum chambers, then I think it will be alright.The third pic shows one after stretching.

I got these for my modular drawer boxes. The intention was to help quickly identify what tools I have lent out. I am a foreman for my company and this was very much needed. They are not as neat as some other brands that you cut yourself, but they are much quicker and easier. I will be buying again.

Perfect thickness, I haven’t cut into it yet to see if they’re layered because not all fire arms are of the same thickness, and it’ll protect the weapon if I can leave a thin layer in front of the backing
