Last year we bought the entire assembly - $150 or so. This year am trying the gears only ($57). Once I had the assembly out, the only gears truly worn were the far outside ones…makes sense as they are the ones in contact with the external canister. I carefully pried the retainers clips up working inside out one row at a time and reused the same clips. After replacing the furtherest gear which was obviously worn, I reused the other 4 gears and all the original clips as none were spring or brokenReinstalled the assembly and all is working again. Rationale; only replacing the actually used/damaged parts.

exact fit and works flawlessly Will buy again as these are plastic and wear out every couple years or so

This is our 2nd set and they are so worth the money. Prior to buying these, we have replaced the little T-valves so many times, only because the plastic support breaks, but the bottom piece was just fine. This metal support means we just tap it into place with our existing bottom section. No more glue or replacement as long as the bottom piece continues to seal the opening. I wish someone would make a stainless steel gear kit too.

The service life for these A&A nylon gear trains is between four and five years. (My pool is 18 years, old and this is my 3rd replacement set.) But they're relatively inexpensive, and easy to replace if you have seen the related YouTube video by Poolinfloor.com. Note the trick in that video about removing the "shoe" from the bottom of the assembly and inserting that back into the manifold by itself first. Otherwise, you'll be futzing with trying to get the entire assembly reinstalled correctly over/under the various manifold poppets. After removing the gear train assembly from the manifold, you will need a tool to pry the retainer clips off the old gears, so you can remove them from their stainless steel posts. Pliers will work. The kit comes with fresh retainer clips for the new gears, and I've found that using a socket of the right size to press the new retainers onto the gear posts makes their installation very easy. Thirty minutes for the whole job.

Great value compared to other kits I’ve seen on the market. The impeller is a slightly different design from the one it replaced (see picture in review) but the gear pitch and height works just fine and seems the same. I don’t know what brand my valve set is, maybe Hayward. I only needed to replace the impeller. Could maybe replace the gear set that connector the the impeller as well but the other gears were mostly fine. Took about 5 minutes to install, super easy. Amazon for the win!

Perfect fit. Too expensive for a handful of plastic, but that's what pools are all about. Easy enough to install, the hardest part is getting all the flaps up. Make sure and pay very close attention to every detail if you haven't done this before. Made a big difference on how our pool was performing! Buy it, it's good!

This is what you need if your pop-up cleaning heads are stuck on or between zones. Even if you open up the assembly and everything appears to rotate when you manually spin the impeller, things will not work under pressure. You’ll notice the teeth on the underside of the impeller are worn away. Note, you may be able to put 2 or 3 additional stainless-steel washers or a spacer between the lower assembly and the impeller to raise the impeller gears to use the unused part of the gear while your waiting to this gear kit to arrive.I used a small flat head screwdriver to pop off the 8 retaining clips. Keep in mind that there are only 8 gear clips and 10 gears. There are no clips for the middle gear on each side. I used a 5/16 nut driver to push down the new clips. Do not push them down too tightly or the assemble won’t operate freely. Make sure that you can turn the outside gear with you fingers causing the inside gears to spin. If not, you’ll need to loosen the individual gears clips until everything spins free. Now, about the quality. The gear set that came with the newly installed pool lasted 7 years. This set lasted 2-½ and the attached picture shows the wear. Maybe there’s something else going on that’s causing more friction but everything appears to be operating freely. Keeps this in mind, mark your calendar, and be prepared to spend $40 in this every 2-½ years.
