The clock looks like the listing photo from the front. The thin oval case IS metal, but the rest is plastic. There is an overpowering smell concentrated in the back plastic part. It smells like super strong air freshener, but more chemical like than anything natural. It IS a pretty clock, but the smell hasn't abated yet. If a few more days in the barn with a fan blowing on it doesn't eliminate the smell, we will have to return it. Two stars for overall pretty design, but beware!
