These chains are rated to last the life of the engine. Unlike rubber belts, not even sure why they use that crap, they last almost forever. The belts on other engines need replacing and also put you at risk for destroying your engine if they break. That is why I love cars with chains. This is a OEM GM chain. I am rebuilding my engine, minus the pistons which are still in great condition after 170,000 miles. Even with these chains, they do lose a bit of grip and strength over time. So, if you are going to do anything with your engine and have high milage, I strongly recommend you buy a new timing chain and tensioner. The guides are not that important unless you see obvious wear. This chain is very reasonably priced and very well worth it for how important it is!
