User-Replaceable Batteries
The SM-3 operates on 2 AA Lithium batteries and the batteries are user replaceable, allowing the potential for a longer product life than the many disposable life buoy lights on the market.
Smaller than legacy SM-2, but same mount bracket hole pattern
The supplied mounting bracket holds the SM-3secure in the roughest of conditions but it is still readily accessible when needed in an emergency. Additionally, while the SM-3 and its bracket are significantly smaller than the legacy SM-2 counterparts, the SM-3 bracket conveniently maintains the same mounting hole pattern as theSM-2, allowing for easy retrofit with no additional adapter plate required.

This light works as advertised and the holster does have the same mounting bolt pattern as the old SM2 light so it can be considered a direct replacement. The SM3 is a big improvement over the SM2, the way the unit closes is much simpler and more secure, it is smaller and uses AA batteries that are much easier to find. The unit will work with alkaline batteries but be sure to use the recommended lithium batteries. Alkaline batteries invariably start to leak and the goo that comes out of them will destroy the electronics in the light and cause it to fail.
