Works great to convert the bottom brack and crank on an old Schwinn to modern enclosed bearings.

Did not want to pay $30 for adapter. Tried $15 listed unit and regretted it. Fit the hole easily with a little filing. Bottom bracket threaded easily. Tried cheaper units first to my regret. Cheaper units did not fit well in tube. Once in, then found cheap unit had wrong threads in it. Thus, pay the price for cheap unit. Should have bought this unit first.

Converted an old Murray steel frame to a modern shimano crank set. The converter worked very well. Some of the bike frame tubes inside the bottom bracket were protruding enough to block the converter screws, but I just ground one down a little with a Dremel and it fit perfectly. It does go a certain way and I put it in backwards once. I realized as soon as I went to put the crank on. I turned it around and all is well.

Overall the product is great. Be aware that you may have to get the rotation correct if you are upgrading an older bike. The frame tubes on my 1984 huffy omni-10 protruded into the bracket cavity, so I needed to rotate the conversion kit to just the right angle so that it didn't hit any of the tubes. A four-screw kit would not have worked on my bike, so this was a great solution.

I purchased this for an old Chicago Schwinn cruiser that uses a 3-piece (square taper) crank. I'd been using an open-bearing conversion kit since 1992, but the cones were getting old and pitted.First things first: it's a great-looking product, but no instructions are included. None at all. Just two identical-looking internally-threaded adaptor cups and three long bolts. Now if you're experienced with threaded bottom brackets, you know that nearly all of them have a left-hand thread for the fixed cup (or cartridge equivalent) on the right side and a right-hand thread for the adjusting cup on the left side - they are not swappable, unless you want a constantly-unscrewing bottom bracket. I tested threads until I identified the left-hand thread side (on my set, the one with the three threaded holes for the long bolts) and pressed it into the right side of the shell, followed by the right-hand thread one (on my set, the one with three countersunk unthreaded bolt openings) in the left side of the shell. After this, assembly went quickly, and the cups seated nicely. On my Schwinn, it accepts 68 mm width loose/raced bearing or cartridge bottom brackets without difficulty (73 mm BBs are too wide and won't seat properly - I tested one).Based on the product alone, I'd give it five stars, but since instructions aren't included, I'm reducing it one star. It looks like it should be durable - we'll see.Update: over two years of service and hundreds of miles later, it’s holding up great. Hasn’t loosened or needed any adjustment.

Does exactly what it’s supposed to. My wife’s cruiser needed a sealed BB for riding in a super dusty environment and this also allowed me to swap out the heavy steel US style crank and BB for a lightweight aluminum one that will hold up a lot better to the elements without needing to be stripped down to clean all the gunk out so often.
