Kit contains all necessary hardware so you can lock your metal ammo can. You provide a good drill, a 1/2" socket or box wrench, something to keep the hasp stud from rotating while tightening the lock nut (I inserted a #2 phillips through the hasp), a rasp or carbide de-burring tool, a steady hand, about an hour free time, and a basic padlock. I converted my Harbor Freight metal ammo can and the results are clean, tight, attractive, and secure. One star off for the provided step drill bit, which isn't as sharp as my ammo can walls are tough, and the scant instructions.

The locks work great, the included step drill would not drill one hole (it melted)

Like many of the reviewers of this item, I didn't use the supplied drill bit that came with it so I can't comment on the quality of that part. That's not what I bought it for anyway. The lock portion works great. I'm using it with a simple lock pin and chain. My ammo cans are installed as storage cabinets underneath my RV, so the pins keep the doors from rattling open while we're going down the road.Highly recommend this.

Drilling the holes was a bit of a task, but with the right bits you can get it done in 5-10 min.The washer solution for cans with the hole is tedious and the washer falls off when you open in a rush. It's a so-so solution, very far from perfect but I guess it works...

I needed to be able to lock my military surplus ammo cans and these did the trick. They are an inexpensive, easy to install, high quality solution. Kit even includes the drill bit.

Easy to install with a drill. I recommend a file as well to deburr the edges after drilling. Fits great and is actually waterproof with the included rubber gasket. Also included a step bit for easily drilling the hole. A metal punch gives you a starter hole and I used a small drill bit for a pilot hole.

1) Install a 1/2" drill bit in your hand drill, high speed to minimize bit catching on metal, with the lid closed in the best CLOSED NORMAL POSITION, set ammo box on back and start drilling out the existing hole in the box, don't force, let the drill do the work .....be prepared for possible kickback....I didn't get much or any. NOW, once thru the latch, go slow, start drilling the main ammo box, make a STARTER INDENT with the 1/2 drill, using the latch hole as a guide for a nice STARTER INDENT, don't go too far...the STEP DRILL ONLY NEEDS A SMALL indent to take over the job !2) Next, use the STEP DRILL to finish your holes off....(watch a youtube about step drills, if it scares you - SAFE !). Install the provided STEP DRILL in your hand drill, high speed again, find your STARTER INDENT (above step) with the tip of the STEP DRILL, start drilling out both holes with the STEP DRILL. You will notice that the STEP DRILL goes down several steps when you first start, that's obvious and OK, let the STEP DRILL do the work, don't force it ! Keep drilling, you will start to see the inner hole start to get wider and wider as the step drill drops down and does it's thing. NOW, keep drilling until you start to widen the 1/2" hole in the latch....now STOP.3) Open the latch and get it out of the way, continue to drill out the main ammo box hole, till it is about, or slightly larger than the 5/16" mfg suggests. Take the STEP DRILL now and de-burr both holes, so you won't cut the rubber bushing or your hands.4) Mount the bolt, tighten really good, you now will have to bend up the bolt, because the lid comes in at an angle, keep the hole in the bolt horizontal, so lock fits properly. Take a large to medium adjustable wrench and slowly bend up the bolt to fix exactly thru the larger outer hole. The metal on the ammo box will easily allow you to bend the head of the bolt up to fit just perfectly ! DONE ! (10 minutes max)
