When I built my 5E3 Tweed Deluxe clone 6 years ago, I read that it was important to use a NOS 5Y3 rectifier to get the right voltage for the 5E3 circuit. Lately I've been reading that these JJ's are the one current-production 5Y3 that delivers correct voltage, and they're getting very good reviews in general. So when my NOS Raytheon bit the dust I decided to try out one of these JJ's. Well I guess that Raytheon had been tired for awhile. In any event, my Deluxe now sounds noticeably brighter, cleaner, and more articulate than before. Very happy with the results. Great tube at a great price. I just ordered another for a spare.

This was a spot on replacement 5Y3 for the Fender Vibro Champ. The previous hum heard in the amp is gone and output is increased after the vintage 5Y3, stamped "West Germany"....was replaced. That tube is kind of cool as a nostalgic piece I guess but useless in the amp. The JJ is not a weak 5Y3 like others out there...Anyone who tells you a 5Y3 is good until it dies probably plays with an inferior and failing rectifier. Easy circuit fix for little money. Cheers.

Works and performs exactly as a stock NOS 5Y3 tube would in those vintage applications I have employed this in. I have a 1928 RCA Radiola model 62 which originally uses a type 80 rectifier tube. I use this JJ 5Y3 using a removal tube adapter that allows me to use a 5Y3 (which is essentially an 80 tube with an octal base). Using a JJ tube I can spare the fixed supply for 80 tubes using a current production tube. As I prefer to listen to and use my radio collection rather than just show them off, I like to preserve NOS tubes using acceptable electrically compatible substitutes whenever possible.This JJ tube works perfectly in the Radiola, and has given me zero problems in the four months that it has been in use. I have used other JJ brand tubes in other radios (such as 12AT7) and experienced similarly good results. I would trust a JJ tube in place of NOS.

This tube came to me as a none functional unit that looked wrong from the minute I took it out the box. the top inside of the bulb was crusted with a calcium like deposit, probably never even tested before being sent out. The amp worked before I installed the tube, just made a bad sounding hum after, big waste of time.

Like most with vintage tube amps, I am a bit alarmed with the so-called 5Y3 rectifiers being sold these days and their higher output voltages. Well, you can relax with this one. I measured it compared with the "Made in USA" Fender labelled tube in my old SF Vibro Champ and here are the results: with 122VAC line voltage in, the Fender 5Y3 outputs a B+ of 384V and the JJ 5Y3 outputs 382V. That makes them pretty much identical. I have been practicing and gigging with this tube every week for about 6 weeks with no problems either. I just ordered another as a spare and hope JJ keeps making these! Thanks JJ!
