How to Use L3000 Automotive Smoke Machine
1.Fill test oil (baby oil or mineral oil) to the detector
2.Disconnect the pipe that needs to be connected with detector.
3.Connect detector with DC 12V battery, device starts to work.
4. The pipe will be filled with smoke.Check the leak points.

Our expensive large machine broke, and this one was recommended. very please with the performance. not as much pressure on the pipe but we saw the smoke come out at the header joint. Surprised at how well this worked. We used mineral oil in the machine.

Having used a couple of different home-made smoke tracers, I can tell you this one is well worth the savings in headaches and messing around with caveman solutions.There are a number of videos demonstrating this particular machine on YouTube, but mostly it is with the version of this that has a mechanical pressure gauge. This machine is identical, except for the substitution of an electronic pressure gauge. I guess that makes this one more fancy or something? Either way, they both work the same way.Everything is very easy to set up and get going. The set comes with most of the adapters you could want to test things like exhaust systems, intake manifolds, vacuum leaks, etc.I would say this is pretty much a professional machine. It's well-built and I think could easily withstand daily use.If you are tired of trying to use your homemade redneck smoke tracer, this is definitely the one to buy.

This is a really nice smoke machine. Buy some baby oil - it doesn't come with any. The instructions are ok, but weren't the best. There's not too much to figure out. While it looks like the white icons on the front might be buttons for the individual features, they aren't. There are only the two green buttons that do anything, plus the air volume knob. It produces smoke after 2-3 minutes of heating up. Volume of smoke is decent, but it will take a while depending on what you're testing. My first try was to find out if I had any exhaust leaks. It came with a lot of adapters, including the one that pushes into the tail pipe. It then took a while to fill up the exhaust with smoke. I could see the smoke ok, but if it's windy and a small leak, it can be difficult to see. While I didn't find a leak on my catalytic converter gasket (which was my suspicion), I did see some small wisps of smoke from some of the seams and weld spots along the exhaust. Those are probably fairly normal and weren't huge leaks.I did find that it would shut off after a while on its own. Maybe it was overheating or it was just the normal safety shutoff. It would allow me to turn it right back on. The digital display is only for the PSI of the smoke output. The other gauge is for detecting the size of a leak. Basically, as the system pressurizes, the PSI should increase and then the flow meter should drop to zero. This means there's no significant leak. Small leaks would show pressure near the max, but a small leak size on the flow gauge. As you start up the system, it'll look like there's a large leak since it has to build up the pressure first, thus there's a lot of flow.
