How Does It Work? This filter uses bubbles of air from an external air pump, or an integral water pump to draw water through filter. As water is drawn out through the lift tube or pump, it is replaced by water entering the filter. The top layer of white filter pad provides a mechanical filtration. The black bio-sponge in the 2nd layer and ceramic rings with gravel provides biochemical filtration. They support the colonization of bacteria. The bacteria help to break down harmful waste (ammonia and nitrite). What Maintenance Does It Require? The sponge will need to be rinsed every time it becomes dirty, about once every 2 to 4 weeks. It's helpful to reserve the beneficial bacteria by washing the sponge gently with water from the fish tank instead of tap water. Dimension: 2.75"(L) x 3.15"(W) x 7.0"(H)

Make sure to have an air bubbler and airline tubing on hand, amazing product for betta’s and other not so good swimmers. I paired it in a 5.5 gal. with two airstones and a dual bubbler that has adjustable airflow. Gives me room to add the plants I want to. Betta’s water is pristine. Between the price, media contents included and cost efficiency to run it’s the best filter so far!

The filter works great from what I can tell. The only problem I have is they did not send the plastic tube that the spout is supposed to connect to. So I had to rig it and cut a tube into tiny pieces so that the current isn’t too strong.

Best little filter for small tanks, no power required, only needs an air hose from your pump to keep the water clean and clear

Almost every comment said that the filter floats and it doesn't what so ever, it easily sinks to the bottom. If yours if floating, its because theres air bubbles in it... duh.. Then hook up your air tub and it works extremely well.

Lots of bang for your buck- it provides excellent filtration for my heavily planted 10 gallon Betta tank. There are 3 layers with 3 different sizes and types of filter floss/ media and ceramic rings and little rocks in the last layer . It's very easy to clean with tube brushes and you can swap out for your own filter media.Fits well in the corner of my tank and blends in much better than the big black sponge filter I had.The best part for me is the movable output flow - you can point it in any direction and move it up and down. I use it to circulate my diy co2 which was a great bonus!I'll use these in any 10 gallon I set up in the future

Cost should not preclude anyone from aquarium-keeping. These filters are great and easy to use. Especially when you consider you still need tubing, a valve-flow controller and replacement filter media. They are clear and somewhat blend into the background, but still allow you to visually monitor them to see if a media change is necessary.Tip: keep an eye for sales and slip an extra one somewhere in your tank to season it for your replacement or next bigger tank. Cheers!

OK so first of all this filter does exactly what it should. The water in my five gallon Betta tank is now nice and clear. I really like that you can use your own media. The suction is good, and the bubbles are strong enough without being too strong for a Betta. It's inexpensive, the perfect size (corner fit is a nice touch), and very easy to install with any standard air pump.I would have given it 5 stars, but the lid on this this is VERY difficult to remove for maintenance. There is no notch or tab to hook a fingernail on to remove the lid. In fact I struggled so much that I finally decided to try and use a small tool that fit in the slits on the lid just to loosen it a bit. Well that failed because I cracked the plastic a little bit...I am still giving it 4 starts because it was so inexpensive and because it can hold a good amount of media. I just wish it wasn't a huge hassle to open it!

Have had this filter in my new setup 10 gal aquarium for almost 2 weeks and can see the white foam turning brown, showing me that it's working very well. I have it working with another Tetra filter and with both working, the water is clear and clean. It is small enough to cover with a plant and it is quite hidden from view. People should have one of these in all there aquariums. Small price for such a great working filter. It comes with all the levels of filtering and all you need to do to clean it is rinse it out and set it back in your aquarium, takes less then 10 mins.
