Reviewing Aquarium Chiller 42 Gal, 1/10 HP Water Chiller Machine, We have a 35 gallon saltwater aquarium with very sensitive corals and a few fish that are sensitive to temperature swings and highs and lows. The aquarium stays a constant temp in the fall/winter/spring but we can’t keep the temp constant in the summer. It gets too hot in the house because we try to acclimate to the outdoors temps since we spend most of our time outside. We needed a means to keep the aquarium cooler by around 5 or 6 degrees. Hence, this order. It was easy to hook up and the instructions were clear. Like stated above, we only need to cool the aquarium down by 5 or 6 degrees. We can’t do that to our main aquarium right now because it is at the right temp, but we hooked it up to our quarantine tank which is currently empty, and it was able to lower the temp to specs we set (5 degrees lower than ambient). Since that was successful and done slowly and safely, I lowered by 6 more degrees, and it worked! When I started trying to get it to more than 12 degrees below ambient, it started to falter. That’s good for a chiller in this price range. I do worry that it is currently winter, and it’s in the low 70’s in our house, so the chiller didn’t need to battle the heat. In the summer, it might have a harder time lower the temp of the water. Initial tests are promising though! Rating 4 stars since I couldn’t get it to lower all the way to the listed specs.
