I ordered this microscope for a 5 year old who is interested in discovery and science. It's plastic and lightweight. It comes with everything you need to get started, slides, tweezers, collection bottles and even a smartphone holder to take pictures of magnified specimens. The power is 120, 400 to 1200 magnification. It's easy to use and a lot of fun. The microscope has a light which requires 2-AA batteries; not included.
