I bought this because its construction is all metal and virtually "bomb proof," which means it'll survive rough trips in my bicycle bag. It lives up to my expectations in terms of quality of construction.I use this on my Canon EOS M6 (APS-C) camera for landscape photos. It is evenly exposed and sharp in the center but has darkened corners, which are particularly noticeable in 3:2 aspect ratio when the sky is in the photo. This attenuation is not as obvious when shooting in 16:9 , 1:1, or 4:3 aspects; it's only a real problem for 3:2 aspect which is -- unfortunately for me -- my favorite aspect ratio. This darkening can be removed via post-processing.I have a lot of experience with the M6, and this corner darkening may not be due to the lens. The sensor in the M6 has a filter in front of it that reflects light coming in at 45 degrees or more off horizontal. I've tested this extensively with other lenses, including pinhole lenses. Because of the extremely short focal length of the Astrohori lens, it is likely that this sensor filter is really why the corners are darker.

I had to be extremely careful to line up the red dots to install the lens on the camera. I had to be extremely careful and use force to push the lens flush to the body of the camera. It took a great effort to rotate the lens onto my X-T5. Then my fingers kept slipping with the tremendous effort to rotate the lens off the camera. I figured it was a one-off problem and communicated with support to exchange it. Support informed me it was a known problem and not to bother with an exchange, take the refund. So I returned it and bought a different brand.

You can find my review of this lens, along with 2 other pancake lenses on that red arrow video site under the name "Camera Carnage". Bottom like is this is one of the great bargains in manual lenses. For Fuji X-mount your only other option for a cheap manual "wide" pancake is the TTArtisan UFO, which is an 18mm f/6.3. I wanted a faster aperture and this was the only option besides a Voigtlander 18mm at many times the price.Construction is pretty solid and the focus ring is smooth and nicely damped. Optically it's fairly good. Center sharpness is exceptional but it gets rather soft in the corners. That's to be expected for this price point. It's not a viable alternative to an expensive lens for landscapes but it's more than acceptable for street and cityscape. This is a blast to use with my FujiFilm bodies. Focus throw is short but accurate with focus assist. Minimal focus distance is nice and close so you can still get good depth of field even with the fixed f/4.5 aperture, and you can really fill the frame. Infinity focus is pretty short as well so this is a perfect lens to just set at infinity and shoot zone focused without a care in the world. Splendidly utilitarian for up close or wide shots. Some people don't like the slip-on lens cap, but I appreciate how much space it saves, and it's plenty secure. This is one of my two favorite street lenses and I'm not sure I'd trade it for anything.

Tiny, fun lens. I don't think it's sharp enough for APS-C use, but on a full-frame camera it yields pretty cool ultra-wide images with black corners and smearing at the edges. Note that it has no aperture control - it's fixed at f4.5, so you can't improve sharpness by stopping down.

UPDATE: Added more pictures taken with this lens. After 16 months of ownership this has become my go-to lens for my Fujifilm X-T100. The aspherical design really helps this lens perform above its price. The AstrHori 14mm fixed f/4.5 aspheric melds seamlessly with whatever film recipe I load into the camera - it responds accurately to the intent of the recipe without standing in the way and delivers solid representations of analog film stocks. I can't praise this lens enough.AstrHori 14mm fixed f/4.5 in Fujifilm X-mount. This is a manual lens with no contacts or direct control of features via camera. I mounted it to a Fujifilm X-T100 loaded with a Portra 400 film recipe. All pictures are straight-out-of-camera JPGs. I took these shots merely to test the lens properties and not necessarily for artistic merit.A nice, compact, relatively lightweight pancake lens with a fixed aperture and a sold all metal build. The lens feels excellent to handle with a knurled focus ring. The aluminum front lens cap sticks well via friction.55mm filter size, 0.23 meter minimum distance, focus ring rotates about 80 degrees, filter rotates w/ focus. Scale is in meters only: .23/.5/1/2/infinity. At .23 meters bokeh is restrained, but smooth. Great as a hyperfocal lens w/ set and forget at infinity.Focus ring is nicely damped, no-click. Vignette is pronounced, as expected with a lens of this type.Covers APS-C, 21mm effective. Nicely rectilinear. Flaring on the AstrHori seems well controlled.I love little pancakes and bottle cap lenses that allow you to move quickly from shot to shot, worrying only about changing exposure via shutter speed as you go. I'd say it's going to get some heavy use from me in future... 🖖
