I recently had the opportunity to use tire chains and wanted to share some constructive insights from my experience. Before I set off on my trip, I took the time to practice installing the chains on dry ground. Although it took longer than I expected, that preparation proved invaluable when it came time to install them for real. One of the standout features of these chains is their self-tightening capability, which is a notable improvement. I did stop to check them after a few miles, and I was pleased to find they had remained snug and in position, which is reassuring. The overall value of the chains was decent, and while I wouldn't recommend using them year-round, they performed well for this one-time use, providing good traction on the snow.I did find the installation process to be a bit challenging, particularly when trying to wrap the chains around the back of the tire and wheel well in wet, cold snow. This is a common issue with tire chains in general, so I can't emphasize enough how crucial it was for me to practice at home before tackling the snowy conditions. For our light-duty SUVs, the traction from the chains met my expectations, and overall, the experience was positive. We encountered wet snow on both uphill and downhill sections, maintaining speeds of 25-30 mph. When it came time to remove the chains, I found it to be much easier than the initial installation, which was a pleasant surprise. One key piece of advice I would offer is to avoid the assumption that using tire chains is simple, especially if you are new to them. Practicing the installation in advance can greatly alleviate stress when you find yourself in need of them on the road. Additionally, bringing something to kneel on while working in wet snow, like cardboard or a snow sled, can help keep you dry. Using waterproof gloves during the process is also a worthwhile consideration.

Tried so much. And even more after this picture breaking the surrounding ice, but alas we could not reach the last hook. I ordered the right size. Way more difficult than it has to be. Maybe just not meant for unleveled ground. Returning.. bought something better.

Make sure you get the right size for your vehicle and practice putting them on before traveling! The Amazon store page has a video I found very helpful. The first time took me maybe 2 minutes to figure it out. The second wheel took less than a minute.Even if you put it on correctly it’ll SEEM like the chains aren’t tight enough, but that’s what the auto adjuster is for. Drive around a bit and it tightens up perfectly. Be aware of the “recoil” when clicking the triangle, I imagine a wire moving that fast CAN be dangerously. Will buy another pair if I need more chains!

Super easy to put on. The wire and clasp on inner wheel side snapped after 3 days of medium usage

I live in Colorado, chains broke easily and on the other one it didn't want to retract the line anymore. I was only able to use it for half a day.

The thing to remember is to drive at slower speed and follow manufacturer instructions

These are my first ever snow chains so I expected there might be a bit of a learning curve on how to get them on. I didn't expect that the instruction sheet would be the issue. I probably spent more time trying to figure out the first two directions than it took to get the chains on the tire in the end. The part that is omitted in the directions is that the back ring comes apart. I had to watch a video from someone else to learn that part. Not good directions for first timers. That said, the chains are very heavy and appear to be pretty well made. Getting the chain on the first tire probably took less than five minutes once I figured out how to do it. The self adjuster has a lot of power in the spring and snaps it down very tight as far as I can tell. They seem like they will get the job done but I won't be completely sure until winter comes. They look good on and the size chart was absolutely correct for my vehicle. 4 stars for being a good easy product but with not great first time instructions.

Unfortunately, their are not many options when choosing tire chains, their ether extremely expensive are cheaply made. As for these chains, they are the only thing decent enough for my size tire. The biggest issue is that there are no english instructions. I messed with these for about 30 minutes and finally figured out it's easier to flat out take the tire off to install rather then watch the confusing video. The layout in the picture is forward and then backwards on installation, so your left wondering what the pictorial wants you to try. I was going to send back, but my options were limited. I was able to install, but only if I take the tire off first. Yes they were a challenge. If you buy these, please try first installing with tire off, then you will have a better understanding how this contraptions works. Nothing like the good old days of putting on chains. safety seems to get us in more trouble then helping.
