I use this for the water tank in the pasture. It mounts easily to the side of the tank and the hose attaches securely. when the tank is full the float is pushed up and the water shuts off, just like you would expect.

The all plastic design is lightweight yet surprisingly durable, which is probably to only positive thing to say about this product. When properly assembled to the tank, it fills as expected, but the float valve will not properly rise to seat itself into the shutoff position. Try as one might to make fine adjustments to get this to shutoff, it refuses to fully seat as needed. Having used automatic fillers for years, this one falls far short of what is needed for a trustworthy product that you can install and walk away from. Even when installed as far below the lip of the tank as possible, this still allows water to flow, leading to significant water loss by the time you go check on your animals in the morning. Please, find a different product to meet your needs.
