I realized this is not for chickens after I bought it and they are not able to pick it hard enough to flow. I made a lever out of a heavy gauge piece of fence panel that pulls the lever forward when a chicken stands on it, and it works well!This item is made for animals to press their nose against the rod to dispense fresh water. It works well and I am very happy with it now that I have modified it for chickens to use.
