Due to thermal forces in the vehicle engine, this variable notched belt tightens on the drive as it heats up to prevent slippage, improve belt performance and reduce noise.

Used it on a small block Oldsmobile after deleting the AC. It does work but with no tensioner it's tough. I had to use an engine hoist to slip it on, but it worked.

Running this on my 22RE with no P/S or A/C... I switched over from the Dayco 15340 top cog belt that had provided nearly 20,000 miles of trouble free quiet service.. the Gates belt started squealing at start up just a few days after installation. Gonna switch back to the Dayco brand.

Put on a Oldsmobile 307 engine with smog ac delete and it stopped the slippage and random squeals. Goes around fan pulley and crank perfect. Remove fan, remove pulley and slip belt over. Install water pump pulley and the clutch fan bolts will give it proper tension. 30 mins

If you did the emissions and AC delete on your olds 307 and you got belt squeal this is what you need. Put this on the inside grooves of the crank and WP.Gotta pull the WP pulley off, put the belt over the crank and then slip this on the WP while you tighten it. Kinda a pain, but doable. Pull the top half of the fan shroud.Reassemble everything else as normal and HEY NO SQUEAKING.

I got a high output alternator from LC Engineering, and I replaced all the belts while I was at it. But the OEM size really is just barely too long, and it is extremely difficult to keep it from squealing. I did some research, and this is the same belt, just an inch shorter. The belt is long enough that you can get it on still, but there is still about 3/4" - 1/2" of adjustment remaining on the alternator bracket when it's tight. If you have a 22RE, and you have a small alternator pulley, try this! I finally got the belt to stop squealing every time the electric fan kicked on in the morning.
