Many files are too soft and this one is perfect for the intended purpose!

Very high quality "handy file".Handy files have two different cuts on opposite sides of the file. Use the double cut side to cut fast and remove material, then flip the file over and use the single cut side to smooth things out. 8" of usable file surface plus about another 3.5" for the handle. The file is within a 16th of being 1" wide the entire length. On the relatively softer steels of the axes and hatchets on which I'm using it to sharpen, this file is a beast. Cuts fast, smooths it out, and doesn't load. The built-in handle makes it comfortable to use without fumbling around with a slip-on file handle. All in all it's a great file, five stars.

I've only used this a few times since it arrived but it seems to be well made. Top marks.

Bonne préhension. Les deux faces , une pour degrossir et l’autre affiner le tranchant mordent bien le métal

It's well made, doesn't require a separate handle and fits perfectly into my quick response tool bag, without being too heavy (those that come with the handle) or punching a hole in the bag (those without the handle).

Double cut on one side for quick removal of nicks and quick shaping ,other side is a single cut for a finer cut. I use this for axe sharpening and finish the process with a King Japanese double sided water stone.

This file is so good that you can compare it to any and all other files to see the difference. This one works. It cuts steel effortlessly compared to even the big name brands that are supposed to be the best. I plan to take good care of this one and use the others for everyday use. These files make sharpening an axe a lot easier.

It Supposed to be 8 inches overall , that is a reason I got this file but instead it is almost 12 inches . It is a good file I’m going to keep it anyway but tell the truth please.

Since Nicolson moved their file making overseas I have been less than impressed by how well they hold up and perform so I have been looking for a replacement option. This definitely fits the bill. Made in Portugal, it has so far held up very well and leave a pretty good surface to boot. This is not a precision file however so I didn't expect it to leave as smooth a surface as the smooth side did and have no complaints. I have used it to sharpen axes, a Rogue Prohoe and also to do some rough shaping on a pre-hardened knife and a hand plane blade. Im about to pick another one up to have a spare in case they disappear from Amazon as good files are getting harder to find nowadays.

I'm not your average file user. Aside from needing them from random projects, I use them constantly when restoring and sharpening axes. It's VERY hard to find a good file now days, but I've had a lot of luck with the Bahco Farmers file so far. It maintains its ability to cut far longer than other files currently on the market, and having the ability to drawfile with the double cut side is a huge bonus. Im also a fan of the finer cut side as well for finishing work. Ive noticed a huge improvement on the amount of time I can use a file on hardened materials before wearing it out since switching to these, and for the price, I can't complain. I'm usually stuck scouring the internet and antique stores hoping to find NOS black diamond files, but even if I don't have any luck in doing so, I know that I can still complete the task at hand with a bahco with little fuss. Don't even throw your money away with hardware store files (you know the brand I'm referring to), just pick up a few of these and call it a day.

I've owned a couple of cheap files and they would just wear out too fast during basic tool sharpening. This file makes an incredible difference.First off, like one review I read before buying said, this thing eats metal. And it keeps its grit after extended use. It's not a bastard file but it cuts like one. It's compact and light weight too, making it easy to lug around in a tool belt or box.I'd say it's definitely worth spending a bit extra for something that will probably outlive many cheaper files.

Ordered this to sharpen my camping axes and it works well. My axes were dull and this tool was an inexpensive way to get them back in usable condition. The bastard side removes metal well and the fine side puts on a nice edge. I was initially using a pull through sharpener like the one used for kitchen knives but made for axes. It did not work well. This was what I should have gotten to begin with. This should work well for all bladed tools. It seems well made but time will tell. Even If I only get a few years from it that will be ok as it is inexpensive enough to replace.
