I purchased this kit because I know that Ball is a very reliable company. I canned jam for the very first time. All the extra tools it came with made the job so much easier. I canned 48 jars of raspberry jam. It was so less messy than the other friends canning things. The funnel really made it easy too fill the Jars and with the green measuring stick all the Jars were filled the same. I love the magnetic lid picker upper, the lids stayed sterile from the pot to the jar. There was no having to drop lids or burn my fingers. This is a great buy!!

For an affordable canning set this isn't a bad entry point, though I do have a few minor gripes.First, the good stuff: You have just about everything you need to get started here, with the exception of jars and lids. The pot is a nice size and cleans easily. The funnel is the perfect size and has been invaluable in filling my jars with salsa, jelly, and other yummies. And the rack has, so far, been fairly sturdy. Fits jars both large and small. I've gotten good use out of it already.All in all, we've gotten good use out of it, making close to 80 jars of various goods for our pantry. This set got us off and running quickly.But not all is perfect. The tongs for grabbing jars broke on our third use. The hot water popped the plastic off the portion that grabs the jars. They're still usable, but now the grip isn't as good. More slippage = fears of dropped jars. Also, the magnet on the lid lifter is so weak we don't even bother using it anymore. And the rack, while sized nicely, feels very flimsy. With a full rack of full jars I feel like it's going to twist apart one of these days. It does not feel made to last.Oh, and the pot started getting some peeling after just a few uses.Ball's jars, lids, and other gear are a mainstay in canning, so I expected better quality from this set. It's getting the job done, but for $50 the quality was a bit of a let down. I wouldn't steer you away, this IS a good first set for someone just getting started (like me), but this is NOT made to last, so keep that in mind when you buy.

As many positive reviews before mine have stated, this is a great water bath canner from Ball. Not much more to add, it does what it is supposed to do. Washes up easily, hold plenty of water, and the kit that comes with it is helpful although I had my own separate funnel, etc. This is great for those who are just starting out canning and who just want to do pickled things and jams/jellies. Happy with the product.

Ok, I've always been partial to Ball and my Mom has had one of these for probably 50 years. Plus, the reviews are great (>4 stars!). Unfortunately, the one that I got was a complete piece of junk! It was so thin that while well packaged, it came dented on both the canner and the lid. But I figured - it's a canning pot - who cares?! Well, I should have. Rather than using it right away, I waited until I had something to can, used it, and left it sit overnight for round 2. BIG MISTAKE! As I fired it up on the stove, I heard hissing - and noticed drops of water on the cooktop. Thinking it was just condensation, I took the lid off. Still had hissing. So I dumped the water out - not something one does easily in the west in these days of drought, but probably a good thing - since there were multiple tiny holes in the bottom! Yup, a complete piece of junk. But good on Amazon for taking it back - well, mostly good - they charged me shipping - but in the lesson learned category - when it looks like junk, it probably is. Sorry Ball - you may not have hit bottom, but you are on your way there......

This all in one kit is a little expensive but does the job very well. Only feedback is that the funnel is kinda flimsy. I trust Ball and used to use them for years to can. I just got back into it and bought all Ball supplies. They work beautifully and as expected. Will definitely use them for many years to come and plan to pass the practice of canning and pickling onto my children. They will be taught to trust Ball as well.

This a fantastic beginners kit, all you need are the jars and food stuffs. For the more advanced person this a a pretty good augmentation set - my wife found that this works great when she is doing two recipes for the same fruit or produce.The beauty is that buying this item through Amazon this is the best value for our money that we have ever found.

I'm pretty new to canning on my own. This set definitely helped take a lot of the guesswork out of the actual process of canning! A nice big canner, the wire rack to make getting jars into and out of hot water burn-free, a funnel to get those hot-packed peaches neatly into the jars, the tongs to position and pull jars out, and the magnet to grab hot lids and get them onto the jars were all awesome and easy to use. The only thing I had a problem with was the little spatula to clear air bubbles, and I'm pretty sure that is because I haven't had enough practice using it. I seemed to get the hang of using that more by the end. I liked that the set was inexpensive, but well made, perfect for me because I don't plan to use it too much but wanted a decent set to make things smoother when I do. I am very happy with it!
