Ballistol was developed for the German Army who requested an oil that would lubricate, clean, protect and preserve firearms and gun stocks as well as preserve leather gear. It is unmatched for cleaning firearms and minimizes the need for brushing and scraping barrels and chambers. It forms a protective film on the surface of metals and is capable of creeping into the finest cracks and fissures making Ballistol and excellent "penetrant" to help loosen frozen nuts and bolts. It will even protect wet surfaces! Unlike most lubricants, Ballistol emulsifies with water; when the water evaporates, Ballistol stays behind to protect the metal, plastic, wood or leather. Ballistol will keep all smooth leathers soft and moisturized (do not use on suede). It is also non-toxic and biodegradable; neither its use, disposal or decomposition will produce any byproducts that are harmful to the environment. Coca Cola and many of Germany's famous breweries use Ballistol as does Bizerba, one of the largest precision scale manufacturers, who specifies Ballistol because it never gets sticky or increases friction over time. It's also a great silver and brass polish. Human sweat and skin oils are slightly acidic; their effect is similar to the etching process. Ballistol is slightly alkaline and neutralizes this effect. Of course Ballistol is also perfect for all the household chores any normal oil will do, but why settle for a "normal" oil when you can have one product that does so much more.

This brand of CLP has been around for a very long-time. I use it in addition to HOPPES on all of my guns. I tend to use the spray version of this product to clean/lube/protect all those hard-to-reach areas. Just spray it on, let it set, brush or rod as needed, and wipe off - too easy. Very pleased with this product.

Great lube and film for rifles after cleaning. I use Hoppe's for cleaning, and then oil the mechanisms, and I use Ballistol for the barrel interior and rifle body exterior before putting them in my safe. Never have had a rust issue. Great protection, easy to use. I prefer the spray over the liquid bottle.

Works great. My favorite gun cleaner. Seems to get grime other cleaners miss.

Was looking for a product to clean my guns that didn't just linger in the air for days the way Hoppe's does, and this works like a charm. Super quick at loosening up carbon buildup, lubricates really well without feeling super greasy. Does have a bit of a smell of its own, but I kinda like it. Reminds me of lanolin

I have always used wd40 in conjunction with rem oil for protecting and lubricating metal parts. Have heard a lot of good things about ballistol, especially at how it’s carcinogenic free. Upon using it to wipe down a few of my knives, even while having the fan on pointed to the side of me to blow most of the fumes away, the smell is awful but the coughing and weird feelings I got from just breathing in a tiny amount is definitely not a bueno. Looked up how safe this stuff is and the chemical composition does indeed contain a derivative of propane which is a major respiratory irritant. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO NOT USE INDOORS. USE OUTDOORS ONLY!

Great lubricant for firearms and cleans the bore as well. Works well on wood stocks and even leather. At first I found the scent to be offensive, but actually got used to it rather quickly....it's not the smell of Hoppes or Outers that your father knew well.My wife however still finds the scent to be offensive to her olfactory glands.

Ive been using this stuff for YEARS as a CLP. It does a fantastic job as a cleaner. top notch...As a lubricant, i cant say that its ever let me down. Now i will admit it does have a strong almost liquorice meets anise type smell that people either love or hate. personally i love the smell.

I like Ballistol because it is safe to use and has many uses. The makers suggest that it can be used even on plated metal chrome, gold leaf, and nickel if the plating is not damaged, scratched and the excess wiped off. It is a a creeping oil that can lift plated metals plated by electrolysis method if the plating is damaged and or scratched. See their website for instruction. I think the product is wonderful and has a pleasant licorice odor. It dries and the lubrication is still there. I use it on locks and many other things. It works good for firearms too. Hickok45 is the person I seen use it. I now use it. It is great safe product. Ballistol is fully compatible with all metals including aluminum; however, Ballistol will dissolve traces of copper, lead, zinc, tombac therefore it can be used to clean bronze, brass, and silver. Moreover, Ballistol will remove traces of some metals (copper, brass, etc) from the barrel of a firearm for example, but it doesn’t necessarily dissolve the metals so that’s why it is safe to clean solid metal with Ballistol. Ballistol removes metal fouling from the barrel of a firearm for example by loosening the adhesion to the surface. It is a creeping oil. Ballistol will not harm solid copper for example. Just make sure plated metals are sound with no damage and or scratches to the plating. Again, one must be careful not to use Ballistol with electrolysis plated metals that are damage and or scratched. You can learn more about Ballistol from their Ballistol Material Safety Data Sheet. Ballistol is a lubricant not a water blocker and should not be used on wet electrical installations from rain or condensation. A short circuit may result if used on wet electrical systems. However, Ballistol is also an electrical insulator so it is safe to use on electronics. It is a good corrosion inhibitor, can protect wet surfaces, used for leather, and many other uses. The Ballistol website has more information about their product. It seems to stay put and lubricate.Explanation of electrical use: Therefore, Ballistol, in its non emulsified form, will not interfere withthe flow of electric current in electrical networks or devices. It will not normally build electrical bridges or cause creeping currents or short circuits to occur, even if applied directly on electrical equipment while energized. Ballistol should not be applied to electrical or electronic equipment while water or a high degree of moisture are present in the equipment.I think it is a great product.
