I've used this head gasket repair on 2 vehicles and 1 Kubota tractor. Amazingly, the stuff worked. The secret: strictly follow the directions. I had questions so I called the company. They have an 800 number listed on the bottle. They were incredibly helpful. All 3 repairs occurred back in 2023 and 2024. No issues so far. I bet this stuff saved me over $10,000 in mechanical repairs.I'll update the review if the leaks return. So far, so good!

This stuff works about 75% of the time and will usually provide a permanent fix. It worked for me on a small block chevy v8 that had a very small leak and I was seeing oil on the inside of the radiator cap. I've seen youtube videos of people who have used this stuff and the engine is still going strong after tens of thousands of miles. An important thing to note: head gaskets usually blow when the car is overheated. The first overheating event is usually the cause of the head gasket failure, and it's often due to running out of coolant because of a leak in a hose or the radiator, or an electric fan failure. The head gasket blows, then subsequent overheating is caused by the blown head gasket. If you know what caused the original overheating and fix it, then this product, if it works initially, will likely give you a fix that is permanent. If you try this stuff and it works and you love the car and you do not know what caused the car to overheat in the first place, it isn't a bad idea to replace the radiator. Now that you don't have to pay for a head gasket, the rad replacement cost is minimal. You're generally going to know within an hour if this stuff worked. Just follow the directions on the bottle. If it doesn't work the first time, I would drain the rad, add distilled water and repeat the process one more time. If the product does work, I would drain and refill all the coolant to get the barrs out. They say you do not have to, but I have seen a few reports of the thermostat or heater core getting clogged if you leave it in.Again, in about 25% of cases, this stuff will not work. But if it does work, it's like a miracle in a bottle.

UPDATE: It has now been nearly six months since I added the Bar's Leaks repair, and it is still working 100%. Additionally, the car had been leaking oil for several years, but the leak has stopped! (Not sure how that could be related, but it doesn't seem like a coincidence to me.) In short, I'm still totally overjoyed and amazed by how this stuff works! My 2001 Pontiac Grand Am sports coupe -- which I love -- was diagnosed with a blown head gasket. Symptoms included white smoke from exhaust and sometimes from under hood, coolant had to be added daily; ran very rough ("shaky") for the first few minutes of driving; even when warmed up, the heater blew cool air for a period of time; gas consumption high. Yet, the car NEVER OVERHEATED.Desperate to avoid costly repairs, I began researching "fixes" and finally settled on the Bar's Head Seal Blown Head Gasket Repair. It was easy to perform the process, and by the second day the difference was like night and day!! I did have to top off the coolant that one day (but not since); the car ran smooth, heater worked fine (no cool air), no white smoke; coolant remains full; fuel consumption seems to be lower.I'm a bit superstitious, so I'm afraid to speak too soon and jinx it, but it has been more than two weeks since doing the Bar's fix and all is great! Another plus: the Bar's customer support is outstanding!! Very knowledgeable and reassuring. If you're skeptical about trying the product, I would suggest calling them first.

This product exceeded all expectations. I had a warped cylinder and subsequent leaky head gasket in my economist engine...design flaw in those engines. I was adding antifreeze daily at least 2-3 cups . I decided to try this product to see if I could keep it running until new engine arrived...6 months or so. After using this product I had zero antifreeze loss...no further white exhaust and added no further antifreeze for 8 months when I replaced the faulty engine...probably would have lasted a lot longer but I had already committed to the engine purchase. Easy to use clear simple instructions. Have recommended this product to many people since then. 10 stars from me!!!

I talked to a Bar's leak tech rep before using this and followed his recommendation to flush the cooling system completely before adding half a bottle to my 2.5L 2006 Subaru forester engine which had bubbles in the cooling reservoir, was loosing antifreeze, and obviously had a blown head gasket. It was not overheating after their recommended test of 20 minutes, in fact it would take three for four hours before it lost enough antifreeze to overheat. I added the HG-1 per his recommendation and followed the directions to a tee. It initially cleared up the white smoke coming from the tail pipe but didn't stop the bubbles in the reservoir or loss of antifreeze. After about a week, I spoke to another tech rep who recommended that I drain the cooling system, refill with a second application of Bar's Leak HG-1 and follow the instructions again which I did. I've been driving it for about a month now and I still have the problem along with a lot of gray gunk in my cooling system. I called a Bar's leak tech rep again (April 2020) and he did not have any other ideas except to say that it doesn't work on all engines but that they would send me my money back or send me another bottle of HG-1. the only hitch was that I needed to get a statement from a repair shop that the car still needed a head gasket replacement. This is an example of a worthless warranty. If I take it to a shop it will cost me at least $100 to get such a statement and I only paid about $34 for the HG-1. The car is old enough that putting $2K or $3K into a head gasket replacement is not worth it so I am just going to live with the problem and fill up the radiator when it needs it. Based on my experience, don't count on this product to fix your head gasket problem despite all the positive reviews out there. I thought I did my homework by reading these but was totally misled. This is not the cure that is 'guaranteed' on the box cover. You will just waste your money.
